I was reading the label of the 9 V Sony cylindrical batteries and found this thing really strange
Wonder why that name comes to these batteries cause in real time they are more of cuboidal type than cylindrical

Then why are they named so

Is there any convention governing the names of these batteries.

There are cylindrical batteries stacked in series inside your cuboid case.

To be more 'proper' (at least in some circles) there are 6 AAAA cylindrical cells in series to make a cuboid shaped 9V battery Wink  The term battery has become a pretty generic universal term (thanks to the common use of calling AA, AAA, C and D batteries, instead of cells) but you will find many 'nerds' that consider single cells just that cells, while two or more cells combined make up a battery...  Technically either way is right as the definition of battery in most dictionaries says one or more cells, but like I said you will encounter those that argue that a single cell is not a battery proper...

Deer Mr. Pick E. Semantics,

I see two or three batteries in my picture ....and I was using Sony's context.

How is my posting improper?

My intentions were to show members, whose mothers were overly protective, what's inside a 9V battery...as a kid, I found it extremely deceptive of manufacturers after I discovered individual cells (in this context "batteries" does not apply) inside. I was expecting to find a cell, just as with a D 'battery', with different electrodes or chemistry. That disappointment, and the discovery of this widespread fraud, has turned me into the curmudgeon I am now.

Did you bother reading my post?  I detailed why 'some' might find it improper to call the individual cells batteries as you did in your post and explained WHY 'some' object to this terminology...  I also CLEARLY stated that technically either way is right based on dictionary definition(s) of battery...  I guess the explanations went over your head and you are simply looking for something to complain about, when someone dared to offer a different answer or explain something differently???

Thank you for clearing it guys The point I was also wondering why it is called as a battery ( A collection of cells) also ?

But now the picture and the arguments here clearly point them out

PS In most house moms just discard batteries the moment the first sign of low charge shows up nice comments here
