Tuco ... dead or Alive

« on: November 05, 2012, 09:26:01 09:26 »

hello

i just receipt a kinda old dusty tablet ( a chinese poor copy of a ipad called 'super pai-III' ^^) from a friend and i want to work with it... unfortunately the battery is a misery, and doesnt last any minute alive...

i wondered how to bypass correctly or do some tricky to work with the supplied transformer, because it doesn't work (like my cellphone does) without the batt plugged on the device.

thanks in advance

You can also buy an external battery with whatever the charging interface happens to be.  You will be tethered but at least it will turn on for more than a minute.

If you can replace the battery, it is pretty likely any bare LiIon cell you can get to fit will work (if it uses a single cell with two tabs/connections coming off of it).  Be careful you must know what you are doing and LiIon batteries can be dangerous if used/charged improperly.

If you only want to run it of the transformer, and you don't want to buy a battery... you could try a resistor where the battery connects, value would be needed to be found via trial & error.

^take the battery out if you do that.

If you set fire to your house with your little bypass, your insurance won't cover you unless you can show you had UL (or whatever your local standards are) approval for your mod.

Even worse would be a fire or explosion, which would cost you more in medical bills than a crate full of new batteries, or a dozen new tablets:

As has been said, Li-ion is not something to mess around with.

Yes I took it for granted, poster would have removed the dead battery, to reduce the power of trying to charge it. (and thrown it on the fire as fuel in this cold spell) but then you have to let people find out what is the hot end of the soldering iron.

I heard it is unsafe to dispose batteries in fire But I have never personally wanted to test one by doing it

Is it as dangerous as you say here ?
