Hi

I am trying to design a power supply to work in all cars voalteges from 12V to 24V and higher. There are many spikes and other singnals that need to be filtered out before suppling the microcontroller. I have used nomral 7805 regulatros but there is a energy problem if the voltage is to high and heats up. Does any one have a design for a good stable X voltage to 5 or 3.3 volts.

Thanks.

U need to make voltage down converter like good old LM2576. http://www.elecfree.com/electronic/3v-3a-regulator-switching-supply-with-lm2576/

yes a step down coverter is the best solution. you also need a well design (coil and caps) filter before the lm2576 and perhaps a voltage limiting device such as a zener diode to avoid spike exceed the lm2576 maximum input voltgage rating.

The LM2575 supply current up to 1 A. and Lm2576 current up to 3A. See datasheet and application.

Why you not change topology from linear to switching power supply, Sir Famous controller such as uc3842 can design easily or you can take controller another such ad NCP1200 Series from onsemiconductor

Oh I remember that have the another controller which intregreted controller and powermosfets, Very simplex to design circuit.

The benefit is that have software for help to design, good work

See this w w w.powerint.c o m

I use LM350 for 3A. Works very well.  Wink
