if you have a QNAP NAS beware, yesterday I found it encrypted and they want 0.05 bitcoin (1000 usd) for the decript key.
And it is precisely a targeted attack on the QNAP brand.
luckily I was also using Uranium Backup which made me a daily copy of all important things zipped with a different name for each day on an external cloud, otherwise I would lose 30 years of work

did you have the latest firmware on the nas ?
this alert was live at the beginning of the year 2022
it should have been corrected ?
also did you desactivate the admin account as suggested by qnap ? (and create another admin)

I had an attack to my Synology NAS last year, but only my public folder was accessible. Only a few duplicate files were encrypted.
I mean there are attacks as many as networked devices. No one should be carefree with shields lowered

The attack use the web interface as I understand. It is always a good idea to disable as much as you can. That will always have some preventive effect. A button up system is safer than a very public system. Do not know if this is an option QNAP system though

Personally I am pleased with my decision to go with Unraid.
