These appear to be standalone units and are likely expensive Shocked ...how about a cheaper version like:

http://www.shopbot.ca/p-37277.html for $30...

which would likely be easier to talk to...these guys sell an SDK that supports multiple vendors so I suspect that the protocol can't be proprietary
