Hi dude,

I'm planning to buy JTAGICE mkII for my new project. Anyone know advantages and disadvantages of this debugger? Does it have parallel programming? There are a lot of clone debuggers but JTAGICE mkII is the most expensive among them. So what else can it do more than clone debuggers?

Thanks,
pak

Hello,

the big advantage of the jtagice mkII comparing the MKI is the debugwire support, it's an amazing thing for in sytem debugging of small avr attiny and atmega (48 88 etc).

it support jtag progamming and debugging, and isp programming.

For parallel programing you need the stk500.

I have seen a bundle with the jtagice mk2 and the stK500 over the web. i think from arrow electronic. I thing it could be interesting.

For the clones i dont know, i have hear people complain aboug the debugwire function.

Hopes i help.

@pak

What excactly do you mean by parallel programming ?

Most AVR's (i think all of them) , support ISP programming , and High-Voltage Programming.
The "Big ones" with 40pin+ , support JTAG programming , and the smaller ones DebugWire.

But to my knowledge there are no AVR's that are programmed via parallel.

Do you mean "Multiple" AVR's at the same time , when you say parallel ?

Mega32

Ps: The Original MKII has a verry robust input circuit protection system , many of the clones lack that.

You may want to look at the AVR Dragon, supports Parallel Programming, JTAG and debugWIRE. Cheaper than a JTAGICE MkII.

@Mega32, What you call 'High Voltage Programming' is High Voltage Parallel Programming. Check page 259 of the ATMega32 datasheet, http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/doc2503.pdf, also http://www.avrfreaks.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=38691.
