Hello all,
I have received an email that the enhanced replacement for the PIC16F877A will be PIC16F887. Has anyone used this chip and is the programming procedure same as the old chip ? I sent a mail to Microchip asking about the same but have not received any reply till now.
If anyone has worked on this new chip please post your comments.
Thanks.

Programming procedures are not the same, for example; adcon1 registers are different.
You can't use same code for both devices
Datasheet for 887:

the 887 is more powerful than 877a, more memory , but as usual different register to configure enable/disable ADC Comparator digital etc.

Maybe it could be usefull the MicroChip "Product Selector Guide".
The last i found is the 2006 version "
http://www.analog2go.com/literature/product_selector_guide.pdf
". It says that PIC 16F887 is a "future" PIC, but there are all the specification o the PIC.

I have PICkit2 Debug Express with PIC16F887.
The differences I saw until now are:
1) ADC module has some modifications: ADCON1 register is modified, channel selection is changed, ADC is faster
2) UART module is enhanced(actually, its new name is EUSART). In addition, some feature for LIN communication have been added.
3) It has an internal oscillator configurable from 31kHz to 8MHz.
