I'm a fulltime C/C++ developer that wants to pick up a hobby of programming PICs to make little household tools whenever time allows it. Next on the schedule is a IR controlled outlet so I can switch on/off my dedicated xbmc player with my programmable remote control. I guess this must be feasible with a 12F683 using a TSOP4836 IR receiver. For software development I'm thinking of MPLAB with XC8 or sdcc, but getting this decision right is the reason to ask for an invite.
