What about developing tools. That is also a part in selecting between diferent vendors.

I noticed that just FPGA chip only(with limited components).
example:fpgaforfun,sparkfun,seeedstudio,etc. already done that.

I am about to take my first steps with VHDL/VERILOG/FPGA.

I bought 2 Mojo boards on kickstarter.

Xilinx Spartan6.

Spartan 6 is a good place to start,
ISE/Vivado is sufficient for most work and a good place to stay for a few projects
