Yes, it's true. I am involved in one project (not published yet, but prepared for publishing at kickstarter) and we have one guy from UK in our team.

For start you may read this "bible":

Amazon (5%), Kickstarter (5%), and the IRS (up to 35%) are the only ones who make money on Kickstarter. I've read that people are writing checks from their own accounts after a campaign.

You're better off asking your mom for the money, IMO. You'll wind up with more in your pocket than what the parasites take.

There's a similar fundraising site in Australia - not sure what its rules are.

Lucky ba*tards. We have about 60%  (sum) for taxes and other parasite contributions in our country. Better start moving to some odd country with lower taxes.

The State gets up to 10% as well.

Then you have to pay sales tax when shipping to certain states.

Health care is out of pocket, as much as 30% of many people's pay.

The US is NOT lucky. In the US, you can die in the street or have all your teeth fall out, nobody cares. And many cannot afford health care plus food, so what choice would you make?

You have a social safety net, the US only has greed and killing, and corporate welfare handouts, for its tax money.

The happiest countries in the world are the ones with the highest taxes and best social programs (like health care, lengthened maternity leaves so there are fewer farm-raised  (daycare) psychopaths in society, etc.). And you don't bomb the crap out of foreign peoples to steal their stuff for corporations, garnering worldwide hate for the stupid common American who is nothing short of dumb and gullible, with no money earmarked for a decent education, but billions of $$ for aircraft carriers and stealth bombers.

Nope - you're the lucky one.

Anyway, Kickstarter benefits nobody but the MBAs who set it up and peel the top tenth of the money pile off....just for providing a web page and credit card processing.

Thanks for all the comments.

How is the deal with that UK guy, he is the one who will receive the money right?

I think we can see KS not only as fund rising theater, those MBA had build a crowded market too.. thousands or even tenth thousands pre-order is something rare to find. For funding, my mom is not rich enough, maybe we have to start to approach girls with rich dad  Tongue.

Is that australian site www.indiegogo.com? Still too quiet in there.

That is typical socialist crap. You show up at any public hospital in the United States and they must treat you. Must, as in no choice. If you stumble into a private hospital, they will perform "life saving measures," "emergency treatment" and "stabilization treatment" (including delivery of children) and transport you to a public hospital via ambulance at no cost to you. If you, as a new mother or you child have complications, they must admit you and treat you. No cost. Every illegal alien in the US shows up in the emergency room on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. They can't turn them away. Not a citizen, no address, no money, no job and no ID? Not a problem, step right in. We'll increase the cost of treatment to people with cash or insurance to cover it.

MD Anderson, the best cancer hospital in the entire world, sees hundreds of patients a day and never charges then a dime.
Gibbs Cancer Center, soon to be the #1 Gemonics Cancer Center in the entire flipping world, sees hundreds of patients a week for free. I personally know the man that founded it and runs it.
I personally know doctors that have office hours set aside every day for pro bono care, then gives them samples of drugs that the drug reps provide.

Let's say your entire world goes to pieces, you rack up a million dollars in medical bills and can't pay - so they sue you. So what? You declare bankruptcy. They can't touch your primary residence unless it is over (I don't remember - 500K?) they cant take your car, all they can do is raid your bank account, and you are probably broke anyway.

One of the finest men I ever met was a surgeon about 60 years old and was a very highly respected member of the medical community. All the other doctors looked up to him. He was going to do surgery on this patient for free. He got on the phone and said he wanted this certain surgery room, he wanted doctor "X" for an anesthesiologist if he had the time, and so on. I commented on the cost and he stuck his finger in my face and said "Son, I don't practice medicine for money."

I can't seem to recall any stories of anyone sneaking into Canada for your socialized (rationed) medicine.

If, let say the product to be kicked have more then 100% profit margin - is it viable?

Here is what i though:

Dynamixel AX-12A Smart Serial Servo priced at US$44.9

Dynamixel RX-28 Smart Serial Servo priced at US$209.90

BIOLOID Premium Robot Kit priced at USD $1,199.00

And the youtube video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB-Nxj68XZA

I am thinking to make similar products as above, not to be the clones, better if possible!  Grin

My rough calculation is at > 1K qty those three product can be produced and tagged at half of the above prices with still have a very good profit margin.

If i will go to the Kickstarter then i will need help from some friends to work together, how about a group project?

Indiegogo does International, though it's got to be a pretty hot item to do well there compared to Kickstarter.

Hmm.. seems this one is not hot enough.

No, haven't see it before, very interesting robot - i am curious to know the mechanics, any link?

That one is not configurable, and the size is small (only 1.5 kg) - the Bioloid should be compared to it's big brother which is $2.950.

The thought triggered by hate (not a member in here), when i need a precision robotic servo with metal gear + RS-485 interface + digital encoder (they call it smart servo) what i found the price is $226 - i hate that, it is Dynamixel MX-28.

So i try to make my own and successful, also i found someone on the other side of this world who can make custom mechanical parts of rc servos, cheaply with pretty good quality and with metal gears.

In short, i can produce similar servo with the cost around $25.

This is actually about Low Cost Smart Servo, the Robot itself is the wrapping for good selling power - and this one is the wrapping that i think about, someone did it using that Bioloid kit.

If you do it, please bring the analog position out onto the connector as well as the raw servo controls to enable closed loop.

maybe go with an open drain/collector driver to where the servo can be run on serial or bypassed with an external driver
