Hi all,

I need a suggestion, I am having some camera sensor modules, they have OV9650 camera module by OmniVision onto it. This module is meant to be plugged in into the FriendlyARM board Mini2440. I was thinking to interface it without Mini2440. What are the available options? I can work with AVRs, ARM7 ? Any suggestions will be very useful ! Is it possible to interface this module with AVR 8bit ?

I think Yes, but with limitations...
Search ebay (and rest of the Internet) for AVR with similar OV camera and see how they do it...

do u want to capture video or photo.if u want jpeg photos to store ,just go for JPEG serial cameras,it reduces lot of work.OV528 camera modules are easy to use with AVR,but its a JPEG camera.if u want video,u have to capture series of photos ,but the frame rate is very low,4 to 5 fps or 2 fps based on size of output image.

An interesting thing about the datasheets for this module - A later one (v1.91 Jan 28 2005) that you can d/l from e.g. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OV9650-1-3-Mega-Pixels-Camera-module-/270752601637 has less info than an earlier one (V1.1, Dec 7, 2004, d/l from http://www.dragonwake.com/download/arm9-download/OV9650.pdf) which has values for the colour correction matrix etc, more info on the lens shading parameters etc.

Thanks for your reply...I can't use Serial JPEG module because the cost of system and size is one of the objectives. I need more control like format change windowing which can be provided by Omni vision sensor OV9650. My worry is if i use ARM7, lets say LPC2148 for interfacing OV9650 based module. I dont know if it will be able to capture the continues data coming over parallel pixel bytes output, i mean the data rate will be quite higher. So will it be possible to perform any kind of optimization so that it can be done using LCP21xx or any of AVR8 (Mega324/644)?

As I said before - if you search ebay for AVR/STM32 CPU with OV sensor, then you have found solution. I presonally have STM32 camera PCB 3.1 which comes with (near) full documentation and example code for capturing images with resolution 320x240 pixels (and SD card interface)... Let me give You one more hint - search for AL422B from AVERLOGIC...

Hi deveshsamaiya,
If you need to store image buffer AVRs are not indicated because they have little internal memory and no interface for external SDRAM.
LPC2148 has external memory interface for SDRAM, 70Mhz CPU Clock, but I think that you must slow down PCLK of OV9650.
