Which is best choice 8051 or avr or arm?

Very basic development board for AVR is STK500.
You can buy it from Digikey or your local distributor.

I learned on the AVR... very highly recommended. Cheap programmers, GNU C, cheap chips... they are fantastic for getting into it.
