Interesting. What resolution can you achieve with this? Is it possible to do 0.5mm traces?

Yes .5mm is possible, I have used a hp printer which prints at 1200 dpi.

It's not about how you export the design, but rather what the printer outputs. It's the first time I find this method described with an inkjet printer, all the other instructions involved a laser printer. And this is a good thing, because I actually HAVE an injket printer  |

It is the best method for homemade projects. Results and handling will be better, than with poor blue film from internet shop. Tested!
Using this method many years. 1,4mm LQFP was minimal package for me . U can use any half mat paper, example thikcness sheets from Elfa catalogue or any magazine.

After posting the original message we started having problems using this method, we eventually found out our old iron wasn’t getting hot enough.
So as I had an old laser printer I decided to see if you can easily modify the fuser (this one has a quartz lamp inside a roller) to do the ironing part.
This test model is very basic, all I did was strip out as much as possible only leaving the fuser and enough electronics for the printer to maintain the correct temp.
I even have to crank the rollers by hand.
So when I have a bit of time I will put the stepper motor back in an build a little controller to step it very slowly.and to control the temp.

Thanks Smainj for the links - I never thought of looking on You Tube. Looking at the video's I guess getting a Laser printer would be the ideal solution for making PCB's. I wonder if there are any budget models online that would do?

I am using old photopape, printing on active side, after pressing hot iron, I am place a plate in warm water. 10 minutes and very good PCB is ready.

Using old photopaper I ve made PCB for SMS contloller and very complicated PCB for logic analyzer (Elektor), but only single side.
All looks well, connection of component side , I have made with wires/
