A new version of the control software is available (6.10):

Look in manufacturer web (can't link to it, it is in Chinese, but download link is easy to find there).

It's free to download.

Why would you want to build it, you can get it so cheap from china. less than £30 with 6 ic adaptors.

Also note: links to non English sites are not allowed in forum rules.

it's worth £30 just for the right adapters..
i would like to see the guts, and see if worth making, as it covers such a wide range of eeprom, microcontrollers etc, i will probably buy one in the end..
question is why would you make a flashing led with a microcontroller when u can buy one for 15p on the net..
knowledge is the question, and also upgrades in the future..

You could buy the TL866CS and update it to TL866A using a modified flashing upgrade tool.
I have the details on my works laptop, It works.

Yes, you need to add the header, I bought the A version, a friend has done the conversion to the A, after seeing details in another forum.

Saying that I would not use the TL866 to use as an everyday micro programmer, over the years I have collected from works stores many programmers.
in my workshop I have microchip devices ranging from pickit2 and pickit3, ICD2 & 3, plus a box of microchip dev boards.
same for Atmel devices, my work place invested in ATAVRISP2 and other kit, then went to J-Link, so if needed I can always borrow what I need.

Same to me. I have a collection of PICKit2/PICKit3/ICD3, Atmel JTAGICE3, JLink. The only useful function  of TL886 to me is to rescue messed-up AVRs.

If you use the programmer software to Flash Update: a TL866CS that was hacked to TL866A, it will revert to a TL866CS

That's estrange.

I upgraded with the last software version, 6.16, my hacked TL866A and I had no problem. It's still a TL866A.

in my last post there are two files TL866.EXE and Update.dat last firmware update for the TL866.
you use TL866.EXE and it will update the firmware in your TL866CS to TL866A you don't need to pump the update.dat to hex
unless you want to, you just flash your device with TL866.EXE

Actually I already hacked my CS to A but I'm just curious with that "DUMP" and "ADVANCED" buttons..Cheesy

Just sharing this..

Quote
well, in this case you can do it in two ways: a simple and safe method and a dangerous and "complicate" method.

The simple method of changing from TL866CS to TL866A version:
1. download my firmware updater here: TL866 firmware updater and unzip it.
2. connect your device to USB cable.
3. run TL866.exe from the above downloaded archive
4. in the update.dat file section browse for that file (you can find this file in the minipro installation folder)
5. in the "Firmware to write" section select TL866A firmware
6. click reflash button

Your device will be reflashed with the A firmware version. Done!

The only drawback of this method is that future firmware upgrades can be done only with my tool, the minipro software will revert to original "CS" version.

The dangerous and complicated method:
1. run TL866.exe from downloaded archive
2. in the update.dat file section browse for that file (you can find this file in the minipro installation folder)
3. in the "Firmware to write" section select firmware dumper
4. click reflash button
now a custom firmware will be programmed into your device, just wait to finish
5. The Advanced button will become available, just click it and another window will appear!
6. in this advanced window we have three fields: Bootloader section, Copy protection section and device serial number section
7. in the Bootloader section select "A Bootloader" and click Write button
now your bootloader will be reflashed.
8. just close this advanced window and from main window in the "Firmware to write" section select TL866A firmware
9. click reflash button

now your device will be reflashed with the A version firmware. done!

With this method your device will be permanently transformed to A version and future upgrades will be possible from minipro software. But why is this method dangerous? because if something goes bad (power failure, computer crash etc.) during  bootloader reflash your device will be bricked (and you will need an external programmer).

I tested this latest version of the 6.81 program
I have a TL866CS modified in TL866A.
When connecting the programmer, during firmware update, it is detected that it was a TL866CS modified in TL866A.
A Web page of the manufacturer opens and warns that many modified or cloned programmers exist on the market, it works the same correctly.
I tried to read and write devices, without any problem.
My programmer counts to be seen as a TL866A   Grin

I have updated the programmer from the TL866CS version to the TL866A version following the instructions described in this forum.
The update operation is something I had done before installing 6.81 software.
The new software, he realizes that originally my programmer was a TL866CS, and for this he tells me that he could be a "pirated" programmer, ... but it works the same as TL866A

Yes but the question was how did you update ? with their software or by using TL866.EXE.
It maybe they are checking serial numbers. and just reporting it as wrong. for now, later on they may brick it.

I made the upgrade I think two years ago, now sincerely, I do not remember which system I used for the change.

I updated my TL866 about six months ago. I have not installed the latest software, last used about a week ago.
so I have not had a warning about fake or pirated hardware, but when I finish work this week I will try it out.

If you go to the manufacturer's site, they are explained which are the fake or modified programmers.
I think that the new software verifies the serial number of the programmer, that once modified with the appropriate tool, put an identical serial number for all.
See the photos on the site .......

Did you test the ICSP after this upgrade?

I also used the firmware updater ver. 2.4 of Radioman and now works well without problems.
I had problems using the update.dat file from version 6.82
With the update.dat file ver 6.81 ... it works fine

i updated software version 6.82
When connecting the programmer, during firmware update, it is detected that it was a TL866CS modified in TL866A
yesterday i checked to program AT89S52 it is giving ID error,i removed ID check and try to program but giving error at location 0
( i completely erased the firmware and programmed with given HEX with  TL866.EXE)
i uninstaller 6.82 and install 6.71 and is working fine now
the firmware shows as TL866A  V03.2.82

You must use the Radioman utility to fix the problem

Hmm, not sure after the shenanagans of the last few "updates".

So, who is volunteering to try it?

The site works regularly .. you have to enter the home page.
It takes a long time before it can be downloaded
Beware if you have modified your programmer from CS in. At this version you can boil it.
Look for RADIOMAN for more information and hack the programmer from CS version in A version

Thank you for your extraordinary help, but I still can't get into the site. My request is still valid for other helpful members.
Note: In the picture I added, you can see that I can enter our myth site but I can't enter that lazy site.

So it seems there is an alternate site:

http://www.xgecu.com/en/

An open source Linux program for it, which I have not tried as yet:
