Do you have a link?  I'm very curious as I was looking for a longer range passive RFID system.  The antenna had to be a reasonable size (<1' wide) and the RFID tag had to be <1.5" wide (preferably smaller).

To get 3M (~10') range with a passive RFID tag, it seems a very large antenna and a high RF field strength would be required.

You can less distance with a small antena.

Smaller passive RFID tags are available with 13,56 MHz. The range can be extended by using amplifiers for the reader. The range could also be extended by using multiple antennas. The antennas are connected to the reader through some semiconductor switches.
This is just no project for a couple of days.  Cheesy

Switching between different antennas can extend the range.
