as a side note .... 3dS files can be generated by many simple to use programms ...
using a software like Cool3d PS, it is very easy to import graphics, generate a 3d model and export it as 3ds file .... then, just generate your STL file and print it out ...
Very easy and slick to generate and print out real 3d models without the need of using a complex software like 3dMAX or similar ...
