PIC LAB-1 A beginners project using the PIC16F84A.  Teaches the concept of "building blocks" and programming with a range of experiments, using input devices such as a microphone, coil, pot, diode, photo-transistor and more.
This project includes more than 25 Experiments.
Extra Pages can be found HERE.
PIC LAB-2 using a PIC16F628 will be available later. It will be a extension of PIC LAB-1. You will need both projects to cover the experiments.

5x7 Display Another beginners project using the PIC16F84A.
This project uses 35 LEDs to produce a display that will show all sorts of numbers, letters and animations.
It has over 30 experiments starting with displaying a LED, flashing a LED, moving a LED, detecting a push button, turning on a column of LEDs, creating numbers and letters, creating a running sign, creating a counter, a 2-digit counter, a 5-digit counter, animations, a simple "Bulls Eye" game, "LED Dice" and experiments with sounds, tones, tunes and siren sounds. A very comprehensive project to teach programming.
This project is complete.

PIC LICK-1   As the name implies, it beats anything the author has
seen. It's cheaper, faster and has more features. A module for a PIC16F84A or PIC16F628 with 5 inputs and eight 1-amp outputs. Ideal for 100's of applications. And the biggest advantage is you learn PIC Programming.
This project is complete.
PIC ROBOT-1 This is another module in the PIC series. It's designed for a robot. You provide the wheeled vehicle and sensors, and this module provides the electronics. It has two amplifiers for sonic sensors, two H-bridges to drive motors and an infrared link for guidance.
This project is currently being written.  Watch it develop.
ROBOT BEACON  This rotating beacon project can be used in a number of applications from a robot rotating light, boat beacon, miniature railway display to a bike flashing lamp. It uses a PIC12C508A and the project shows how to program this amazing 8-pin chip as well as how to re-burn it (with limitations).
This project is complete
ROBOT RADAR Yet another module for a robot. A  5x4 LED display shows the presence of objects, walls etc. Two sonic transmitters are used to collect data. The micro does the  interpretation. The animation shows an object crossing in front of the robot. Two output lines connect to the PIC ROBOT-1 module to control the movement of the robot, to avoid obstacles etc as shown on the screen on the right.
This project is currently being written.  Watch it develop.
3-Digit Display  A very handy module using a PIC16F628 to drive 3-digits made with surface-mount LEDs. It can be used as a counter, voltage readout or as a frequency display. Expand your knowledge of programming a PIC16F628 with this project.
This project is currently being written.  Watch it develop.
Tacho-1 A project for your car.  A analogue readout showing the RPM of your engine on an 8cm display made with surface-mount LEDs. The display also has 2 digits showing the temperature of the engine and inside the car.
This project is currently being written.  Watch it develop.
Tic Tac Toe Everyone knows Tic Tac Toe.  This project uses bi-coloured LEDs and shows how to create a program using the PIC16F628 microcontroller. The result is a program with "artificial Intelligence."
This project is complete.
Multi Chip Programmer This simple programmer will program PIC chips via a cable on the serial port of your computer.
You will need IC-Prog software and MPASM.
This project is complete.
CAPACITANCE METER
Connects to your multimeter (0-10v scale). Measures 1p to 10u.
This project is complete.
COMBO-2
Tests transistors for gain and c, b, e leads. Produces a signal for testing audio circuits.
This project is complete.
CONTINUITY TESTER
Checks for shorts and open-circuits. Faster than using a multimeter.
This project is complete.
SQUARE WAVE OSCILLATOR
Output frequencies from 1Hz to 100kHz in six ranges.
This project is complete.
METAL DETECTOR-1
Use with an AM radio to detect coins etc.
This project is complete.
5 - PROJECTS
5 Projects on one PC board. 2-transistor amplifier, Flashing LED,
Flip Flop, Fibre-optic Sign, Siren.
This project is complete.
XENON-9
250-amp Speed controller for RC cars.
This project is complete.
XENON FLASHER
How to convert a throw-away camera to a "flasher unit."
This project is complete.  No kit is available for this project
Mini Bench Amplifier
A very handy piece of test gear for testing audio circuits.
This project is complete.
Phone Ring
A SURFACE MOUNT demonstration project. Teaches surface mount skills as well as producing a tone similar to a phone ringing.
This project is complete.
L

This project is complete.
FM Transmitters
Learn about mini FM transmitters in our new section called "FM BUGS."
BEETLE MkIII - connects your guitar to the airwaves.
VOYAGER MkII - 800 yard transmitter that fits on top of a 9v battery.
WASP - 200 yard transmitter that fits in a Tic Tac box.
Field Strength Meter MkI - measures the output power of our bugs
LED Power Meter - also called "Peaker." Measures output power.
Mini Tracker - Sends out a beep to track almost anything.
Micro Battery Box - holds 3 button cells for Mini Tracker project.
Micro Bug - our smallest bug yet. A fully surface-mount design.
These projects are complete.
Model Railway Projects:
Capacitor Discharge Unit
Level Crossing
Signals Module
2 Amp Power Supply
Throttle
These projects are complete and ready  to add to your layout.
More projects will be added HERE
Here are the articles in the FREE section:
Soldering A comprehensive article covering techniques and equipment for soldering, desoldering, reflow and surface-mount.
A very good article on soldering from Weller can be found HERE. (378k .pdf file).
Start here with '508A All the articles, programmers, routines and notes have been provided on our website to carry out the programming of this amazing little chip and it's just a matter of having them all in easy reach. Programming is done in a PIC16F84A with an 8-pin to 18-pin adapter and when the project works perfectly, a PIC12C508A is "burnt."
The 555  One of the most versatile chips on the market. This article shows how to use it in a number of applications, with a JavaScript calculator on Page 2.       555 TEST  A comprehensive test on the 555.
Robotics  A 12 page article on Robots of the BEAM type. These are the simplest robots you can produce and are powered by a very small "pager" motor using solar power. There are many links to "club members" sites and construction of two robot kits.
Nitinol  Commonly called "Muscle Wire," this wire contracts when heated or when a current flows through it.
Spot the mistake An interesting article showing how to detect mistakes in circuit diagrams. Three pages of circuits. P1  P2  P3
Making your own housing  An article by William B Jones on making your own boxes for projects.
Resistor values made EASY 1%
Resistor values made EASY 5%
Match the colors to get the value of resistance.
Surface mount resistors - see Chip Data E-Book.
