Hi... everyone. I have a low cost PIC Programmer based on JDM.  Low cost, No external Power.

I do a very little pic programmer in a db9 case, but I have the same problem with the laptop.

The really very best one is the PicKit2
It programs all the microcontrollers fom microchip!
Costs about 30$ plus shipping, from MicrochipDirect, or you can purchase from SureElectronics that
is a Chinese seller at Ebay

I beg to differ!

All the JDM variations have problems with several serial ports, especially on laptops.
But the big difference is called ICSP! You don't have to pry out the PIC from its socket for every little code change, and then back to the target for testing. Just make your modifications and press the programming button!

Low cost programmer is always unsafe. I generally prefer USB Programmers. They have external and internal USB power. You choose the one of them and it has no problem.
