Title: RC Project, suggestions Post by: LoneWolf on June 11, 2013, 11:33:45 23:33 Hi guys, so i made up my mind and decided to build something i could use on the weekends at the park, and thought of some rc heli with a mounted FPV camera, i want to use 2 servos for the FPV camera so i can pan/tilt the view, my problem is that i want to build it from scratch, the less part pre- assembled, the better, so i can learn in the process, i am new to RC, so i am not sure as far as how everything goes together, so if anyone has some kind of block diagram of how the components go together it would be great, but correct me if im wrong, the receiver goes to controller board, controller board goes to motors? these are some of the parts i chosen so far:

does it provides some kind of PWM? i don't seem to find info on it :/ in short from the manual : Feature Highlight: ● Innovative Discharge Monitoring and Protection Design for real time battery pack monitor ● Multiple protection features: Low-voltage cut-off protection, over-heat protection, throttle signal loss protection ● 3 start modes: Normal / Soft / Super-Soft, compatible with fixed-wing aircrafts and helicopters ● Throttle range can be configured and is fully compatible with all transmitters currently available on the market ● Smooth, linear and precise throttle response ● Separate voltage regulator IC for the microprocessor ● Supported motor speed (Maximum): 210000 RPM (2 poles), 70000 RPM (6 poles), 35000 RPM (12 poles) ● Our pocket-sized Program Card can be purchased separately to provide easy programming to the ESC at the field. With a program card, you can activate the music playing function on the ESC Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: Catcatcat on June 12, 2013, 06:23:27 06:23 Here are my experiments with analog servo, maybe you would be interested http://catcatcat.d-lan.dp.ua/en/skachat/primeryi-postroeniya-koda-programm-dlya-pic-kontrollerov/analogovyiy-servoprivod/ (http://catcatcat.d-lan.dp.ua/en/skachat/primeryi-postroeniya-koda-programm-dlya-pic-kontrollerov/analogovyiy-servoprivod/)
Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: sphinx on June 12, 2013, 06:54:34 06:54 A gyro would be a great help to fly heli, without it you might get into big difficulties in trying to fly.
here i found some easy to understand info for you http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-helicopter-gyro.html i am in no affilliation with this site. Some ESC's are also able to deliver dc power to the rest of the system(radio, control, ect.). Also, here are some interesting links: Awesome calculator, and a good start: http://www.ecalc.ch/ (http://www.ecalc.ch/) (Click on the links under Language / Calculator) Awesome statistics and a good start: http://www.flybrushless.com/ (http://www.flybrushless.com/) Have fun :D edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Speed_Control (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Speed_Control) Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: LoneWolf on June 19, 2013, 08:32:40 20:32 i'll keep this updated as i build it, i didn't reply any sooner because i have no internet at home for now, so i have to check all my online stuff at work, good stuff
Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: f22kma on June 24, 2013, 01:49:14 01:49 How big is your RC helicopter? I know of one design that used 1W SS data link to control RC Heli with onboard camera, gps, compass, altimeter and even radar altimeter for contract aerial photography. It was all controlled by onboard micro controller with automatic return to point of origin if fuel low or radio signal lost.
Low resolution video was available in near real time with high resolution images and video downloaded from memory later. Hope this gives you some ideas. Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: solutions on June 25, 2013, 07:20:22 07:20 Post the design, f22kma
Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: movf_jmpz on June 25, 2013, 10:16:55 22:16 There are nice 10Hz GPS modules that are used in those projects. 10Hz refresh rate provides useful position data for model aircrafts.
Want some data? - just google "10Hz gps" (I don't want to advertise anything here). Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: LithiumOverdosE on June 25, 2013, 10:54:44 22:54 I was more interested in radar altimeter small enough to fit RC model. ;)
And I'm not using google for anything anymore. :-\ Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: f22kma on June 27, 2013, 12:32:01 00:32 I would happily post the design, solutions. But alas, I only met the designer once (at an amateur radio club meeting) to consult on the RF data communication and autopilot control software.
I do know that the radio altimeter design was based on this: - http://www.s5tech.net/s53mv/radalt/radalt.html As you can imagine, the size of the helicopter was large by comparison to a RC model. From the pictures I saw, the engine was about the size of a large edge trimmer engine and was powerful enough that the camera platform was gyro stabilized. Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: LithiumOverdosE on June 27, 2013, 05:14:18 17:14 I do know that the radio altimeter design was based on this: - http://www.s5tech.net/s53mv/radalt/radalt.html I'm aware of that design however AFAIK it still required user to decide what is truly reflected signal from ground and what is antenna crosstalk and spurious signal ghosts. Title: Re: RC Project, suggestions Post by: Opast on September 03, 2013, 08:03:25 20:03 RC is not that easy, it takes time to learn and forget about FPV for some time until you learn how to fly. Do not buy any of it, all you need RTF FP helicopter to learn on first. They usually cost under $100. For more info visit www.rcgroups.com
