Title: RC Project, suggestions

Hi guys, so i made up my mind and decided to build something i could use on the weekends at the park, and thought of some rc heli with a mounted FPV camera, i want to use 2 servos for the FPV camera so i can pan/tilt the view,  my problem is that i want to build it from scratch, the less part pre- assembled, the better, so i can learn in the process,   i am new to RC, so i am not sure as far as how everything goes together, so if anyone has some kind of block diagram of how the components go together it would be great, but correct me if im wrong, the receiver goes to controller board, controller board goes to motors?  these are some of the parts i chosen so far:

does it provides some kind of PWM? i don't seem to find info on it :/

A gyro would be a great help to fly heli,without it you might get into big difficulties in trying to fly.

Electric Speed Controllers sit between the battery and motor, their primary function is to control the speed of the motor via PWM. Some ESC's are also able to deliver dc power to the rest of the system(radio, control, ect.).

How big is your RC helicopter? I know of one design that used 1W SS data link to control RC Heli with onboard camera, gps, compass, altimeter and even radar altimeter for contract aerial photography. It was all controlled by onboard micro controller with automatic return to point of origin if fuel low or radio signal lost.

Low resolution video was available in near real time with high resolution images and video downloaded from memory later.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

There are nice 10Hz GPS modules that are used in those projects. 10Hz refresh rate provides useful position data for model aircrafts.

Want some data? - just google "10Hz gps" (I don't want to advertise anything here).

I was more interested in radar altimeter small enough to fit RC model. ;)

And I'm not using google for anything anymore.  :-\

I would happily post the design, solutions. But alas, I only met the designer once (at an amateur radio club meeting) to consult on the RF data communication and autopilot control software.

I do know that the radio altimeter design was based on this: - http://www.s5tech.net/s53mv/radalt/radalt.html

As you can imagine, the size of the helicopter was large by comparison to a RC model.

From the pictures I saw, the engine was about the size of a large edge trimmer engine and was powerful enough that the camera platform was gyro stabilized.

I'm aware of that design however AFAIK it still required user to decide what is truly reflected signal from ground and what is antenna crosstalk and spurious signal ghosts.

RC is not that easy, it takes time to learn and forget about FPV for some time until you learn how to fly.  Do not buy any of it, all you need RTF FP helicopter to learn on first.  They usually cost under $100.  For more info visit www.rcgroups.com
