Title: help on idea for processor type
Post by: sphinx on August 13, 2009, 03:38:17 03:38
hey folks

thinking of starting a project:
i am looking for a mcu where power consumtion and size is an issue atmel or pic doesnt matter as long it is tiny and doesnt consume lots of power since i gonna use it with batteries for a simple purpose using one output sending intermittent pulses. i could use simple electronics for it but would get bigger than i wanted it to be, so i think a small
mcu with a driver transistor would make it smaller but i have no clue on what to use, thats why i am asking for some
ideas from more experiensed guys on what to choose. one thing more internal clock would be great too since its a space issue.

thanx in advance

regards

Without more details, I'd recommend the 12F675 using internal RC oscillator.
I've used them for a few projects and they are cheap on the wallet and the battery.

the only thing one output is going to do is sending random intermittent pulse of 0.1-1 second with same length of random silence in length driving or sinking  a small transistor to a small low power led. but there is no mcu with 3 pins i guess, so i
have to accept that ;). so the better i can get effectivity(lower current consumtion) of the circuit the happier i will be.

Hi,
You can use Pic Micro 10F200/202, which is of 6 pin in sot23 and 8pin in dip(2 pins NC). It is small and cheap.

yes microchip having low current processors, and can use in sleep mode.

hey

i was looking at the tiny ones from microchip with 6 pins seems like a good choice to pick, will read some about em and make up the base of software so i can see how much space it will use.

thanx for all help

Hi

Go for ATxmega series of controllers.... because of less power consumption and secondly they have low pin count micros also available...
on the other hand you have the option of attiny13 series of controllers (just 8-pins) with internal RC oscillator of 8 Mhz
