Title: Triac Connection Related Question
Post by: localcrack on August 02, 2017, 04:09:56 16:09
Is there any difference if the triac terminal MT1 and MT2 is interchanged for load connection ?

As per the image, is any operational difference between Circuit-A & Circuit-B ?

A TRIAC is a symmetrical device, essentially back to back thyristors. Generally both switched connections are called anodes. Your circuits are equivalent.

This is generally ok advise but all TRIACs have some sensitivity differences between gate and MT1 or MT2. Look at any datasheet you shall see quadrant switching characteristics and some slight differences. Probably not enough for concern with these design above.

No such data is given in datasheet of BTA12-600B

As a free tip, it can pay of to collect datasheet from several manufacturer. But anyway take a look here http://www.st.com/en/thyristors-scr-and-ac-switches/bta12.html
Also be careful circuits like this do have many potential hazards. Like electrical shock, and fire hazard. I would not have used a home built circuit like this unattended
