Title: jtag programmer for pic32mx
Post by: mitsos on June 17, 2012, 03:56:00 15:56
hi

I 'm looking for an easy home made jtag programmer for pic32mx family (including the pic32mx150f128b and pic32mx250f128b). I find in net a solution by arduino. Of course I have the universal jtag interface for the parallel port from elektor. The problem is the software.

Also I have some dead stbs that include jtag port on the pcb and I need the software to make them alive again. It is needed to write again the flash memories with firmware.

Anybody here who knows something, please share with us.

regards
mitsos

The PICKIT 3 programmer from Microchip will do the job with no pain. Homemade programmers are all kind of dodgy. Microchip use a JTAG variant that they trademarked as ICSP. For all OTP/Flash based controllers. This system are used for programming/debugging.

I would recommend against using JTAG with the PIC32.  I have talked to some of the engineers as Microchip and they said that the JTAG port isn't very well supported and doesn't currently do much.

Indeed, you'll struggle to do anything with a 'standard' JTAG adaptor with the PIC32. The ICD3 is good value for money and works well though.
