Interesting but I'm afraid it cannot cover all devices using that simple way. Please refer to this manual (http://www.j1sys.com/pdfs/ICSPAdapters-v1.2.pdf) for one similar adapter set to see how many groups we have to cover and some of them are with different pin connections for the same packages.

Thanks a lot for Your post and for the link. Yes, it can not cover all the types that exists, but it covers types I use. Although that I can use the link to redesign it to cover as much as possible with one single ZIF and whiteout using jumpers.  It is terrible (for me) to use a handbook describing hundreds of jumpers configurations. Once again very useful link.

Yes I use the one pictured, works well and you couldn't buy 1 of the 3 ziff sockets for the price of the whole unit so it's also a really good deal even if you buy it just for the ziff sockets .
Nice board darck_khronos I have one simililar to your board that I use too but has 3 set's of connectors for the different pics but 1 set is nicer in your board

They make 1000's so the price of parts is so much cheaper but with shipping it cost me $15 usd ,they also sell pkg of 5 40 pin ziff sockets (3m brand) cheap too (http://cgi.ebay.com/5-pcs-40pin-Universal-ZIF-Socket-for-IC-MCU_W0QQitemZ250613154604QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a59b5432c )
check out the whole site ,they are ok to deal with to no problems

I know that the mass production makes things cheaper but I am still wandering of such a low price.

Mass production, underpaid laborers, and not worrying about the environment or safety/health issues offers them huge advantage over other countries price-wise.

SureElectronics product quality is good in my experience.

I have never used SureElectronics products and I can not blame them for anything. If you say that they are good I am sure that they are. At this price I am tempted to order one just to see it.

Nice to see the 40 Pin ZIF is available for 7.99$ in Ebay. But here in India if we calculate, the exchange rate, its still 6-7 times more the price we get here. We get the same for 50-60 Rupees for Textool Brand. 3M may cost 10 Rupees more, where one USD is equal to 50 Rupees as per todays exchange rate. One may buy 6 sockets from India for the price of one of Ebay's given link. Buying in quantity, will drop the price further.

I have both 3m brand and Aries brand ziff sockets and given the choice I prefer the Aries brand much more exspensive but way better socket and they will fit into a regular dip socket's on development board's like easypic where the 3m and textool one's won't

What is the difference that makes it impossible to fit a 3M ZIF socket?

the pin spacing at least the ones i have won't fit properly also the aries pins are very rigid compared to 3m ones and won't bend or break very easy

Hi,
it sounds strange for me, but 3M is the only brand which I used for this type of sockets, so I can not compare. Next time when I have to use one of these I will check another brands also - not only buy 3M by default :)

Best regards

The aries sockets are way more money at least I've never seen any deals for them like I have for the 3m socket's but they do seem to be better made and they seem to keep their tension on the chips better over hundreds of opening's and closing's compared to 3m ones so if you need many 3m is the better deal out there but if you need 1 or 2 good ones then the aries one's would be worth the extra money
