Both the PICkit2 and ICD2 are USB PIC programmers. There are schematics and board layouts available if you intend to build one. Only problem you might encounter is that you need to get the chip on the programmer programmed.

I've done several usb pic programmer. Some of those are diykit ### and gtp-usb lite, but for now I'm using pickit 2 which I ordered from microchip because of some laptop compatibility issue.

It's worth it to invest in a good and reliable programmer.

Use PICkit2. It's cheap and it programs, I think, all PIC microcontrollers.

I forgot to mention that I programed without problems PIC12F, PIC16F and PIC18F...every PIC I had in my hands I could program it with PICkit2 without problems.

Hi!

Have you seen development tools from mikroelektronika?
They have PICFlash - pic usb ICSP, and other version is the same one - but implemented on the development board.
I am using EasyPic4 for more than a year with various pics and i am more than satisfy.

try to see it on hxxp://www.mikroe.com
 ;)

I agree with bliviudaniel. Use PicKit2, don't have to make everything yourself.
