Title: which universal programmer is the best?
Post by: mrpicing on May 16, 2008, 05:28:12 05:28
hi friends!
There are lot of "Universal Programmers" claiming a huge supported device list.
I have used Micromaster WinLV48(Discontinued) and PINMaster48.
WinLV48 was the best but company discontinued the upgrade support.
I need to know which one is the best programmer currently available?
My points are given below
>Price doesn't matter
>Windows 2K and XP support
>USB and (Optional) Parallel Interface
>Max supported device
>Upgrades for Programmer Firmware
>Upgrades for IDE
>Upgrades for New Devices
>Maximum supported Hex File Formates
>Hex Editing
>Custome Test vectors for LOGIC ICs (i found it in WinLV48).
I saw a lot of programmers on the web. Each says a lot about itself. But i need your advice if you have used or know about any good programmer.
Thanks in advance!
Have a nice day!

Hi,

The ALL100 (www.hilosystems.com.tw) is an excellent machine with great support, for all types of devices and packages a socket or converter is available. It is not cheap but certainly worth the money. Recommended for professional use.

For home use I have a GALEP-4 (www.conitec.com), a lot cheaper and never let me down.

Rgds,

StefkeB.

Hi, I have PRESTO from ASIX company. http://tools.asix.net/ (http://tools.asix.net/) It is ICSP programmer made in Czech republic. It is very cheap and it is also supporting PIC, AVR, EEPROMS and others. But be carefull of polarity - I lost one when i connected it contrariwise  :).

From personal experiences I really recommend LabTool-48UXP Intelligent Universal Programmer
http://www.aec.com.tw/
It's reasonably priced (~1kEUR) and it supports all kind of devices. I have programmed with it different microcontrollers, flashes, eeproms and it supports much more. Check out list of supported devices. It also has instructions how to make adapters for non-DIP housings.

Superpro 3000U is the best one.
It supports lots of chips.
It also includes logic chip testing function.

sorry, it's Chiness website. but it also a good universal programmer .
it can support more than 35000+ devices.

Im also a dummy to prog pic.
For PIC , my suggestion is PicKit2($40), ICD2($130), Real ICE($330).

I have Labtool 48 and is very good for old devices. In the market you can buy copy of this with very low price, see ebay.
Problem of copy is that upgrade for new devices is not supported any more.
So if you need for new devices this programmer will not be good.
You must buy original Labtool 48XP than you will have full support.
