Title: USB flash drive case repair - heat shrinking tube and spring
Post by: Signal on January 23, 2017, 09:53:56 21:53
Accidentially an usb plug detached from plastic cover at last attempt to pull it from PC. Fortunately the remaining case is easily solderable.

1 mm copper wire became an interface between spring and case. An option to drill little holes to attach spring directly lost its chance to be implemented.

Heat shinking tube was the only candidate for cover.

Resulting construction looks naturally on key ring

A spring works as a buffer ...

Nice recovery.  I hope the spring holds up to wear & tear.

Adhesive lined heatshrink tubing might be more durable:

Another possibility is to glue the original enclosure.  Silicone or polyurethane sealant/adhesive might work.  If the enclosure is silicone, few adhesives will stick.
