I bought approximately five PICKIT2. Because it is a pure article, I am good. I am for ISPs, but I attach an IC socket adapter and use it. The PICkit2 is a good programmer and can be had from microchip direct for about $30 (without a target board). It can also be used as a 4 channel logic analyzer and more importantly in circuit debugging. There are also plans for several good clones.
