Title: PCB with galvanized via
Post by: cluoiset on August 25, 2008, 12:39:32 12:39
Hi EveryBody!

Does anyone know, how can I make homemade PCBs with galvanized vias. I mean I do not want to solder a little wire, because it leaves bumps.

Thanks in advance!

Industry produced PCB have vacuum metallized vias. There no galvanic technology. However, you can try put your board to the surface of electrolyte, upper side of board must be dry, but holes for vias must be fully filled with electrolyte, to provide contact with the upper copper layer. That way you can fill vias with copper, but process is slow, and copper deposit will be loose.

Hi,
I am interested with this one, vacuum metallized vias - could you give some reference to it?

Vacuum metallization - common name. This proccess called "Chemical vapour deposition". (in fact there no vacuum, but often its called so).
This document describe silicon coating, but its similar to via metallization, except process speed and gas composition.

There some technologies for home production, include galvanic.

Both is not about vacuum metallized vias, but thanks anyway.

I always interested on how to put metal on holes whatever it is blind, burried, or through... :)

I did some mistake when I called its vacuum metalized . Pure vacuum metallizaton is too thin for that, and metal distribution is not compatible with via coating. Most inexpensive is galvanic metallization. But vapour deposition have excellent quality.

as i know it is so hard to make vacuum metalizing at home
and galvanic metalization could be done but you need some dirty home :)
for small pcb i think it is not so useful to have some devices for making galvanic plating
actually i'had chance to test lpkf's product which is called cheap plating system but it was not cheap for home usage (nearly 2k euros)
and it is not so hard to make it
but it is also designed for using with lpkf's milling and drilling devices
so it could be hard to use at home also without that devices

A low cost option

i heard that devices
are you using some of bungard product?
actually i'm a customer of lpkf and we are currently using their devics
but why not i can test also bungard if you offer?
thank you...
