  Though the compiler still shows as "Evaluation Version", it's expiary date is now "27th Sept. 1976". Well I guess that's OK.

 6. Now these are "evaluation versions" active for 28-days with activation key from HI-TECH. But just register the ".reg" file in compiler zip file & you will get the evaluation version with expiry date -> "27th Sept. 1976". As there will be no one with computer-clock ticking backwords, I guess it'll never expire.

  There is minor problem though.  HI-TECH says that they've deliberately kept something out of "evaluation version".  But what it is, I don't know. Package contains everything from "lib-sources" to all tools. It compiles code >1kByte hex output.

  So you've a eval version with no expiry & not the full version. What you call it now, depends on you.

  By the way, there is no need to taunt someone for having English as second language. Just ask to repeat more clearly. We are here to help each other despite the language barriers.

When you are trying to compile the canned examples You might get strange messages about obsolete options, don't worry, because it's it's only the difference between one and two dashes in front of command line options(change in syntax). Of course You must edit the PICC18.reg file in the "resources" folder to suite your needs(in my case I had to change InstDir"="C:\\PICC-18\\9.50". After that You'll be a happy C18-developer

I have installed it once with the 28 demo license, now 28 days pass my license expired  so  i re-request the  28 demo license but it  keep on saying your license expired..........

I deleted everything related to hi-tech, which include directory and .reg registery.....

Instead of fiddling with registry do like this:
HI-TECH PICCv.9.50 comes in a bundle consisting of the 'picc-demo', a 'cgpic' and the PICC-engine. It also includes a reg.file called 'htpicc9.50'. Start the picc-demo, request a 28 day demo(be sure to be online) and then uncheck HI-TIDE integration(which I find useless).
When the install is finished, copy cgpic and picc into the bin folder of Hi-TECH insallation dir.
After that, register the 'reg.file into the register(be sure to set the path according to Yr. needs).
When it comes to the PICC18, You have to copy the folder PICC-18 to a folder of Yr. choice.
Next open the folder 'Resources' and there You will find an 'setup' file. Run it and choose a 28-day evaluation. Run the Reg.file again and all features will be avaible...:)
 
Godd luck and return if it doesn't work

By the way, if You plan to upgrade PICC9.50 to 9.50PL2, You just have to copy the reg.file in the PICC 9.50 install folder to PIC9.50PL2 and change the reg.file to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HI-TECH Software\PICC\9.50PL2].

It's a FAE release; run \..\PICC\9.50\resources\PICC9.50PL2_REG.reg to activate
then \..\PICC\9.50\bin\MPLABConfig.exe for MPLAB
Read.me it's in russian.
All PICC versions from upload.caxapa.ru are FAE releases.

I am beginning to use DSPICC 9.50 of HITECH with the MPLAB . The Project is:

There's still a problem, but I cant tell if it's my program (I really don't think so, 'cause it compiles OK with the "non-pro" picc18), my winshit installation or the hi-tech compiler.

With picc-18 pro 9.63 PL0 I get this error while linking:

Anyway, thanks bunion for his work! (I think crack is OK, but hi-tech is still gettin' a lot of problems with his "pro" series)

hmm marc thanks but...u r meant to rename each file back to picc18.exe b4 starting so u started with picc18 then afterwards u put that somewere abd u take 2picc18 and rename to picc18  so on and so on

the 1st picc18.exe has 1 change so it wonyt expire...they all work here no crashes

picc18 + 1st reg =evalution no expirty..wotks great in hitide 3.15 using pwm sample
3picc18               = PRO    "   "
2picc is a mix of thetoo so leave that

with the other reg they both run as eval and education and fae

ps..yes dont use patched cg exe till we get ur picc18 running so delete that

or install demo again using 35553 as reg key amd checking offline

install as pro then browse to folder and place picc18 in bin folder

and dbl cli8ck 1st reg ..

then run in hitide ide..using a sample from picc18 samples and see how u get on ...

it looks ok here but im not a pic person so ur the tester...ill make changes axxording to what you find out

there all code same so we fix one we get them all heh

Looks even WORST than PICC18 STD! Lot of unnecessary code in the sum!
I think the compiler discovered that something has changed, and turn off the optimizer phase or something like that!

This thing will happen with "picc18.exe" and "2picc18.exe" (obviously renamed to picc18.exe), with any .reg file;
"3picc18.exe" is still not recognized by MPLAB IDE (at compiling time, IDE switchs to PICC18-STD)


I think you can check it out by yourself, using the .c program at the top; just compile it and check if program
bytes = 14 / 3 (like in the second example).

PS Just tested the "demo" version of PRO compiler (no cracks) on my current project, and it still crashes!... so, that wasn't bunion's fault  ;D  I think HI-TECH still has some bugs to squash....

 All the attached files are compressed and encrypted twice. The 'www.sonsivri.com' password can only decompressed the first compression level. Each compiler, for example, PIC18, are compressed and encrypted with a password different from 'www.sonsivri.com'. In short, one can not decompress these files. Please provide the password for the second compression.

50Calibre repackaged the bunion archives for our convenience. So doesn't it follow that bunion's passwords would still be on the original archives?

about "std": well, i like to use the "pro" version, but some very big projects i'm working on doesn't compile on "pro" version (lots of strange errors, etc.) and it's not your fault (they do the same on demo version).

erm in saying that the patcher in Enterprise pack is older than current standalone patcher....still works tho for those enterprise versions and std too but it has slight error so it doesnt fully patch picc std cgpic.exe only halve of it ..so thats y the update :)

As you can see, it seems the same old problem that I've discovered about a month ago, when you begin to crack the compilers; for example, variables should be promoted to "ACCESS" type (kinda of "register") instead of "BANKED"; this should save a lot of rom code and greatly speed up program execution

I hope all the community use this super-program ;D as a check for future releases too

I've uploaded "HI-TECH PICC-18 9.51 PL3 RC" to dropboks, just in case you wanna see how "kappa" cracked the beast (and also this is a nice update for all picc-18 std users :) )

Also, another suggestion for the patcher: if you copy it into destination directory, make it find the files automatically :)

don't panic, I know you've successfully cracked entire hi.tech production :)  I tested "kappa" crack just because I've just restored the hard disk image (new year cleanup) and in that image there was kappa's crack already installed and I was in a hurry to inform you about latest patch problems ;D

for all other compilers, I have no newer version than the ones you or 50calibers have

RedAlert to be honest keygenning is beyond me bro..im sure if i took the time to learn it seem a lot easier as it sounds at the mo..i guess that most of the code for making keygens come from the softs themselves so the majority of the learning part will be understanding all the different key algo's there is and then earning how to find them in your targets code..I have cracked a couple of apps though where i made it generate a valid serial in message box instead of saying "wrong serial" :)

bunion, I downloaded the HCPICP-pro-9.60PL5 and used the crack on it. Result : Works great... Testing : I adapted some old CCS C code (about 8K), compiled with the latest HCPICP using your crack and the generated HEX file works exactly the same on the target. Additionally, the PRO is also doing its job. The original code and data compiled with CCS took 8050 bytes and with the HCPICP took 7520 bytes. Great job man... keep up the good work...

Yep my macavee virus scanner shows it as trojan too...and most other cracks keygens too..think its because they are made to modify code.....theres no virus in my universal patcher unless DUP+2 makes it a trojan when it makes patcher for me but i doubt they would do that..no probs here :)

if you are trying to patch any of the versions listed in packs or patch pack then there guaranteed to be fully working ..ie..patchable...so u must be doing sumthing wrong

heres routine

you have 2 things>>
1..your hitech installer for prouct u want to install and patch
2..uni patch

1..you install your hitech compiler to chosen folder
2..run patch AFTER READING README.txt and patch your 2 exe files
3..double click included reg file for chosen compiler

DONE:)

if no success your doing something wrong or your trying to patch files not listedso try again bro ok :)

the package i down loaded is the interprize one links at the top of all pages of this topic

and i followd exactly the readme file then run the .reg files and i chosen the 2 correct .exe files but it searches for pattern 1,2 and 3 and it says no patterns found and nothing were patched

ok  iv'e tested the PICC 9.60 PL5 etc thats in the enterprise pack from htbun3 and ALL files patched ok

Remember though, this is a universal patch which fixes a number of different files from different compilers so although it patches successfully there will still be some messages in patch window saying pattern not found

main thing is if it worked correctly youll see a copy of patched file > .bak

you should check to verify if patched or not by running compiler using this switch --version

if ok youll see serial number etc :)

my 2nd pop up now is initiating the hi tide it installed ok

when i try to have a new project i chose file -> new project -> hitec c project 

it gives a new window with a title new project and one line saying

 You must specify a product before continuing.

i know its a pain gem but best bet is to read the help files for hitide etc

i know answer to above...its asking you to choose which hiteck product to use in your new project..IF when installing hitech you ticked ADD TO SYSTEM PATH..then you will see your hitech product listed in a window in hitide

Universal patcher.exe didnt need updated as its still doing its job
so only a new regfile was added for picc v9.65 pro

Remember for small version changes like pl1 > pl2 > pl3 etc etc you can edit the key.reg yourselves by opening in notepad and changing the "pl" bits to suit any minor updates from hitech

Latest PICC PRO v9.65 was a MAJOR version update thats why a new key was needed :)

Current patcher is universal meaning it patches more than 1 program at a time, so when its running it'll scan through the exe looking for individual code patterns and if sucessfull it'll do its thing ,if not itll report back saying "pattern not found" and then proceed to look for the next pattern in the list

This patcher patches %99 of ALL available Hitech compilers :)

ALLPIC - I haven't had much time to test Bunion's work, but it is not uncommon to have minor incompatibilities between code compiled with v8 and v9.  I think best way to verify whether problems exist in Bunion's versions is to install a legitimate trial on a virgin VM running XPSP3.  It is always possible for HT to implement a hidden reg check.

Is there an alternative patcher program for the enterprise edition?
Windows XP SP3 won't allow access to the existing one.
I have tried with disabled firewall, antivirus, etc, and updated files from the archive file with these disabled. Same result.
Telling Windows to run the patcher as administrator does not work either.
The same result with all copies of patcher programs in the archive.

Service pack 3 for Windows XP has been around for some time now.
I have no idea why Windows won't allow the patcher program to run under any circumstances. Might be down to MicroSoft updates, possibly their malicious software program they insist on foisting onto me.

A little addition as thank you for the excellent work: If you use a nationalized version of Windows the .REG files may need a little correction, adapting the InstDir key to the actual directory in your system.

For example in Win2k ITA the right one is "C:\\Programmi\\....", and not "C:\\Program Files\\..."
I discovered this in the hard way  ;)

You are right, but sometimes you don't have any solutions left than to use optimizations. The largest memory PIC18 for TQFP44 packages is 96K. And for large programs I cannot use larger flash PIC18 due to IC package.

Well, I´ve been trying to step up to ARM, but the cost for development boards are high. (Futurlec has quite cheap ones(ST32F103B with 128K RAM, but no support whatsoever). I bought a parallell port JTAG dongle from Olimex and sometimes it's working, sometimes not. It's like playing Texas hold 'em. The best compiler I tried is Keil (with GNU toolchain), but it needs a startup code which I can live without.  >:(

I want to step up to ARM also. I want to use Luminary Micro CORTEX-M3 devices.

 also use Cortex M-3.(ST32F10xxx, 128K RAM), but I had printed out the pin-out and placed it above my working bench, so I know how to connect.
How much is a Luminary Cortex M-3 development board? Does it need a J-Link dongle?(they are expensive). My Futurlec board has two serial interfaces(one for downloading the hex, .bin or .s2 code) and one for connecting ex.wise a Telnet debugger.

Normally I use the Telnet for debugging purpopses(I write additional code in critical sections for watching what's happening). Do You have a more clever solution? I stopped using Eclipse IDE since it's full of bugs.

I think it's better to use Programmer's Notepad and use the "make" utilitity.

May be a linker switch ??

Just remembered - Default standard printf() doesn't support floating point numbers. Use -LF option or whatever newer version requires at command line for linker.
Or may be compiler is unable to allocate enough ram for printf() due to large number of vars in your program.
If that's the case, you better avoid using standard 'doprnt() function(which is quite ram/rom hungry & bloated to include eveything) & write your own or do domething like this--

For all of us used to put our programs in the "Program"-folder instead of "Program Files"-folder, don't forget to open these regfiles with Yr. favourite texteditor and correct it. Btw. the HT-SOFT ARM is actually there, but so far runs only under HI-TIDE...  ;)

Thank you for your works. I'm using Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. I installed MPLAB 8.40 first. And then installed PIC18_PRO_963PL3 by using your instructions (serial number indicated and off-line activation). Before reg file, I changed installation folder in it and applied it. I patched 2 exe files exactly like you mentioned with your patcher (33 bytes patched succesffuly for both). But the compiler still says it is in lite mode. I uninstalled hitech picc18 pro, delete reg keys and re-install, but the result doesn't change. For the third time, I installed it in demo mode (45 days), and applied your patch. Now it says the compiler is in demo mode but will expire on 2029. Is it normal?

Just compiled one old small project(MCU = 16F676 with 1 kw flash) using above mentioned piccPRO9.70(installed and activated 45 days PRO mode)...errors croped up saying lack of flash by some xx bytes....but this just compiles ok(total flash used = 946 words) using picc standard 9.60pl3....seems it is`nt upto the mark as claimed by htsoft.....I dont know what happend to HTSOFT peoples...old staff might have left the organisation...once they used to be best compiler developers(clever too).

I don't now why, but PICC PRO make bigger code - working project in STD ~500 word of flash and PRO ~900 word. All optimization ON.  :(

OK downloaded 9.7 andwill make it fully registered WITHOUT needing any licence or reg files..gimmee a day asi got pulsonix to do too

yes bunion this particular version is piece of crap....as I said earlier...htsoft says that this version uses  a totally new generation of there so called "omniscent code genrator"but it seems instead of having done some huge improvements they have messed up the whole thing.....I think they overengineered it ;D

I found that 9.65PL1 broke my code, so I am stuck using 9.65PL0.

I have the same effect on Win7 x64:

If I install the full version with serial #, I get the messages (after patching):
dsPIC 9.60PL3: compiler is not activated
PIC pro 9.65PL1 release candidate: lite mode

If I install both compilers in demo-mode (after patching):
dsPIC 9.60PL3: no special message
PIC pro 9.65PL1 release candidate: this licence will expire on Wed, 12 Dec 2029

up until latest dspic 96pl3 id been using a vaild 45 day license key to crack all the compilers...what the crack allowed was for that valid key generated for my pc to run on ANY other pc and also to extend the period to 2029 ...i did not think choosing to install as full or demo made much diff so told u all to install as full ..maybe demo is best bet for win 7 now..

ALSO im noticing very slight changes to there code which was messing with universal patcher so when i done the new patch for latest dspic i used a completely diff crack method which bypasses needing to have a licence key altogether...only thing needed in regfile is a serial=HCDSPIC-53118 so it shows something  in main window..the ACTIVATION key is completely phoney using any numbers whatsoever and the reason why u dont get any expiry data etc is because i now completely bypass date checking routine too...it compiles ok and runs normally so from mow on thats the way the others will be done also...and no uni patcher from now on itll be individual crack versions :)

about picc 9.70...attach a test peice of code that you can successfully compile using the 45 day evaluation along with the results you get....attach the .asm file too...using mplab...if ur happy with those results compared to older picc version then ill create crack for it BUT i already cracked it and code looked to long and not as good as last picc version but manuel gets same results using legit version so he said 9.70 is a waste of time to release crack for till they fix it

BTW my problem with 9.65PL1 is this error message:

if I use the 9.65PL0 compiler compilation is successful.

The sprintf call occurs in a source different from the one that contains main() function.
The error disappears if I put a fake call to sprintf [for example sprintf(buf,"");] in the body of the main function.
I hate this kind of workarounds.

Maybe, part of attention on 9.70 hi-tech release, is motivated by flowcode compatibility. In 4.2 version of flowcode, matrixmultimedia declared its compatibility with hi-tech C 9.70 and explain how to use this compiler from inside flowcode 4.2 application. So, i guess, this would be a motivation for someone to wish 9.70 cracked. Just a supposition....

Is it possible to install "side by side" different versions of hitech compiler? In crack's infos is always stated that every previous version must be removed before install another one.
I didn't try it, and I wonder if this is only a bit... paranoid or it's a real issue.
Having different versions on the same machine could help to choose and understand if many "improvements" are for real or are only marketing claims.

If you can't do it on one computer, you could use VMWare and clone a
virtual machine, then install the versions of the cmmpiler you wish to
compare on these identical virtual machines.

I'm sure others here would love to hear what you learn!

I don't understand your request: a different compiler could generate totally different binary code given the same source code.
I could send you a complete MPLAB/hitech project, that compiles with 9.65 and works (as far as my own bugs allows! :)), but without the actual board what kind of testing could you perform?

Anyway if you think that my code could be useful, I will send you my project, complete of any generated output.
I'm afraid that it's much more than a "test bit of code"... 8)

I'm very anxious to read about your test: the 9.70 when registered as "time limited demo" (and in Lite mode) is known to generate bigger code. :(
It's not known if this is a wanted behavior.  ???

I have the suspect that this is a way to avoid the cracking by extending the demo period beyond the 45 days, because the time limited demo cracked with this tecnique will generate the same "inflated" code of the Lite version.

A little unfair for those that want genuinely evaluate the compiler, IMHO. 8)

compiler 9.65PL1:
 Program: 1225 words (59.8%)
 Data:           77 words (60.2%)

compiler 9.70PL0:
 Program: 1179 words (57.6%)  ;D
 Data:           76 words (59.4%)

My program works as expected and, as an additional bonus, with 9.70 I can remove my workaround for "(s)printf-in-files-different-from-the-one-with-main()" bug  8)

I am having hard luck installing PICC. First, I could not use v9.65 because my Symantec is saying that universal patcher has trojan. Now I tried to install v9.70. I am not seeing the application in the menu after installation.

When I start the installation, the flash screen does not say it is PRO version. I hope it is fine.

Step 1 in Readme1st.txt says: INSTALL OFFLINE  as PRO USING XXXXX. The selection screen says PRO/STD. So I do not know how to choose only PRO mode. I did this (I masked the serial number in the screenshot. I used the number from Readme1st.txt),

In the next to next screen, the default installation path is shown as,

Note that the path does not contain "PRO" or "STD". It simply contains "PICC/9.70"

When I try to start the application, I do not see the application in the menu.

Then I ran the patcher and chose the files (mentioned in the readme1st.txt) using the browse button. It reported success (23 bytes written for each file).

Yes its obvious that you will not see any application listing/icon in menu becuse this is a command line compiler...you should first learn how to use command line tools or use some Integrated Development Enviornment(IDE) like Mplab IDE from microchip or Hitechs own HI-TIDE IDE...these IDEs will act as graphical interface for your hitech c compiler...as u have already mentioned that patch returned success message then your compiler is ready to use  and its fully functional now,hope this all helps.

Also you can set up Flowcode to use HI-TECH compiler instead BOOST C compiler bundled with it.

I think you are useing Hi-tech first time. You will never see any application after installing Hi tech compiler. Hi-tech compiler is always linked with MPLAB. If you not like MPLAB then install HTIDE.

recently I check the optimisation between v8.05PL2 (full version),v9.65PL1 and last v9.70PL0.

I do that with a keeloq project (based on an745) and I see these:

it is obvious that engineers of hitech thinking like a fox...

I'd be interested to know the real difference.

Is it possible the new version has errata workarounds not found in the earlier version, and
creates somewhat bulkier code as a result but will thus make your device more reliable?

I have win7 64 bit os. I installed my computer those programs and crack it but when i did project and compiled it it said "hi-tech is lite". Do you know that problem and how can i solve this? Does someone as a cure to install 9.70 on an ancient Windows 2000 machine?

For the curious, the 9.70 installer uses some kernel.dll functions that are available from XP SP1 and above.
I don't know if the same happens to the program(s) too, because I'm stuck at install.

this is a guess but you could try placing an xp kernel32.dll inside your compilers folder and see if it runs...when installing have it alongside the insta.ller exe

No, bunion, I tried this way but it doesn't work. Win2k kernel32.dll is already loaded and all references are taken from it.

Anyway I was succesful installing the compiler on a Vista machine and copying the directory and the related registry keys to the old PC, it was simpler than we thought. I tried a compilation and it seems to works fine.

Hello bunion!!! Long time....

Straight to the point: I'm moving from STD to PRO 9.63PL3 (PIC18), and found a lot of problems... well, at least the compiler compiles and the proggie "seems" to work, but there's a lot of bugs... some of 'em are reported on release notes too (i.e. multidimensional array of pointers problem, the compiler can't calc the correct size!!! very annoying!!!!!)

On the hi-tech forums, btw, there are some references on a "9.63 PL4" version, not counting a "9.64 release candidate":

"The header file is broken for the 13K22/14K22 on 9.63PL3. You'll probably have to move to PL4. "
"Downloaded 'HI-TECH C Compiler for PIC18 MCUs v9.64 Release Candidate' from PIC W.I.P. forum and this worked near perfectly."

Weeeeell, any possibility to get 'em??? I'll hate to move back to STD 'cause the PRO saves me a lot of code rom, and I've almost filled up the PIC (18F4525). In the meantime I'll try to search if I can find 'em!!!

UPDATE:

Just tested the 9.64 Release Candidate... and, apart from the header files change (they're moving to Microchip C18 style, it requires some modifications in your source), a lot of bugs seems to be gone... and the code is smaller than ever!  :)

Well, it seems that they've fixed a lot of very annoying bugs from previous release (PICC-18 PRO 9.63 PL3), a lot of them were really NASTY and could crash all your programs (and drive you mad figuring out what's happened)... so I say:

DON'T USE PICC-18 PRO 9.63 PL3 ...  it's REALLY a MESS of DIRTY NASTY BUGS, and it will make your program UNSTABLE and NOT WORKING!!!  >:(

Instead, wait for the great cure from our great Mr. Bunion for PICC-18 PRO 9.64 Release Candidate  ;D

Kappasm nice attempt bro but above keygen didnt work on my machine because i think you forgot the app id is diff for each machine and the hardcoded one you used is no good without a further patch to accept it which is easy enough but then that defeats the purpose of having it .Thats why i settled on patches as they work a treat and on any machine

In saying that though your keygen idea has got me wondering if i can make a proper keygen that doesnt involve any patching of the exe similar to the keygens i do for armadillo's elgamal..

I think I have found a bug in the patch for HI-TECH C DSPIC 9.60PL3 build 4951.


The compiler throws the following error:

\Temp\s4ok.: 289: (845) multiply defined symbol "S0"

I can get the code to compile by putting the "something" and "nothing" functions in two separate files, OR, by commenting out some of the case statements; either 1 case statement early in the switch, or two case statements at the end.

This problem does not occur when the compiler is installed in demo mode  ???

HItech DSPIC toolkit is very bad so I am never going to use that. Use  C30 or IAR

Thanks Bunion.  I've attached a complete project.  I know the code in itself is meaningless but it represents the part of my code that's causing me trouble :-p

I've tried the compiler on several different Windows XP machines and reinstalled it several times.  As I said, I can only get it to compile if I install the compiler in evaluation mode.

installation (plus patching ) went 100% all right

after selecting the right "include search paths ", especially the
C:\Program Files\HI-TECH Software\PICC-18\PRO\9.64\lib

Some patches only patch the soft, they don't change the about splash screen, you can only say the soft is patched. To prove it you have to run it, and see no limits in function of the soft.
Plus you don't say what version you used and or what patchs you tried.

I've since been in contact with aplank and the original z80 package works ok. From what I can see the original package modifies the install program and you do an install rather than copying the installed packages. HTH

I've got what I need thanks.
However I believe that the package for the z80 compiler that has been released as part of the platinum package has issues and isn't working. Someone else trying to use it could have the same problem. I don't have a 100% understanding of how the installation checks for a correct install but I'd suspect that there is something either machine specific and/or time specific that hasn't been bypassed.

If you have 64-bit versions of the compilers then please upload them!

If you are having problems activating the 32-bit versions on a 64-bit OS then please post the output from the keygen. I've tested the keygen on Windows 7 (64-bit) and it worked without problem. You must start with a clean install of the compiler; if you have applied any other patches then re-install the compiler.

May be he has to run the keygen as an administrator, it writes the registry, and must be running as administrator.

It shouldn't run without elevated priviledges; in the manifest "requireAdministrator".

Very strange; I tested on Windows 7 64-bit and results are below.

Maybe this is a language issue; you are not using english Windows 7?

Things to try:

1. Restart MPLAB; you need to restart MPLAB for changes in compilers to show.

2. Open a command prompt and type (maybe adjust for your language):Post result.

3. Open registry and checkDo you see Activation and SerialNo keys?

I tested it both in Chinese Language Windows XP&Win7(64bit).
It is Ok in XP, It is not in win7(64bit).

In win7(64bit), I tested Picc-v8.05PL2 and picc18-v8.35PL3, They works well.

Problem was due to virtualization in Vista & Windows 7. Activation data written to registry by older keygen is written to VirtualStore and takes precedence over newer global data written by HI-TECH Universal RSA Keygen. Solution is to delete HI-TECH data from VirtualStore, CLEAN.BAT included in HI-TECH Universal RSA Keygen v2.2 deletes this data.

Is is a small problem with the crack method in the HI-TECH PICC PRO 9.70.rar (5.53 MB). If you are using a non English windows version.
You have to open open the "picc.reg" and check if the is correct for your non English windows version. If not you have to correct it. I guess this will also apply to the other versions of HI_TECH compiler. If you are in doubt use the method found here http://www.sonsivri.com/forum/index.php?topic=935.msg97630#msg97630.

HI-TEC PIC18C + WIN 7   does not work

I changed from a XP to a WIN 7 PC

installed fresh MPLAB +  HI-TECH 9.70  for PIC 10/12/16  that is offered as an option on the MPLAB installation.
During the installation, I let installer to modify the PATH.

Additionally I installed HCPIC18-pro-9.64.5502, also updating the PATH.

For testing porpoises (because the hi-tech is not working) I also installed the MCC18 trial downloaded from microchip site.

As a result I have MPLAB working 100% with   MCC18, compiling, simulating, etc, but when I try to use any HI-TECH compiler, no luck

main symptoms ( when using the “Project wizard” to generate a new project using hi-tech )  are:

1>on step two “select a language toolsuite” the HI_TECH Tool suite does not appear.
    If “show all installed toolsuites” is selected, it shows as “active toolsuite” the HI_TECH universal tool suite, but if I use browse to select the “C:\Program Files\HI-TECH Software\PICC\9.70\bin\picc.exe, the “store tool location in project” CAN NOT BE SELECTED, IS gray.

2>After finishing to define the new project with the wizard (including a main.c as a source file), if we go to project-->build options-->project I noticed following
    a> the main.c included as source program do not appear on the little window, only “project” appears as an option
    b> selecting the project option, if we go to the “diver” tab, the drivers list is totally empty, as if no hi-tech suite were installed.

I don't think is an installation problem.
 Of course I removed and installed all over again at lest once to verify if any installation problem did occur

It seems like your HCPIC18 is not getting detected by MPLAB.
HCPIC18-pro-9.64.5502 is a release candidate, uninstall it and install HCPIC18-pro-9.63PL3.


This is normal if you have chosen a PIC18 processor and MPLAB does not recognise your HCPIC18 installation. When you select 'Show all installed toolsuites' it is showing your PIC 10/12/16 compiler. 'Store tool locations in project' checkbox for the HI-TECH Universal Toolsuite is not used.

HI-TECH and Windows 7 does work. See previous posts/screenshots.

Have you used the keygen in the sticky? That is the most easy one to get working. I am now using the both the 18 series and the 10/12/16 series C compiler from Hi-Tech. You could also try the clean.bat found in the sticky keygen, and then do a reinstall

actually I am testing with Hi-Tech compilers downloaded from  microchip ( 45 days evaluation copies) , so there is no keygen need.

when tested the 9.63 original, it reported no drivers.

in order to gain time, I used the CLEAN.BAT from the HI-TECHv2.2.rar package, and now 9.70 as well as 9,63 official versions are working ok on windows 7.

now I wonder if installing the HCPIC18-pro-9.64.5502 package from this site on the windows 7 machine will function.

I found a bug on the plib of PICC-18\PRO\9.64.
Is not difficult to fix. ( have reported to microchip and they approved it)


testing HI-TECH Software\PICC-18\PRO\9.64, you get an error  on the
HI-TECH Software\PICC-18\PRO\9.64\include\peripheral\usart.h

when your source program use the UART  (USART_Status), you get

the problem is the lack of local definition of following union:

Look in the README; this is normal on Linux as there is no option for off-line activation. You now need to run the keygen and then the 'activate' command with the keyfile.dat.

Also, note that the Linux Keygen (v1.0) has not been tested with v9.71a.

Looking at the release notes, thought people who don't read the release note might be interested to know:


This is it: _XTAL_FREQ = Instruction Working Frequency x 4

For example:
If we have a crystal of 8MHz, then _XTAL_FREQ = 8000000
If we are using 4MHz crystal, and a multiplier makes it 48MHz which becomes the system clock (this is a rough & quick example) then the instruction frequency is 12MHz and _XTAL_FREQ = 48000000, although we are using 4MHz crystal.

Kindly correct me if I am wrong.

Metal it's the same in PDS you have to use the pll (40Hz) speed in your code not the xtal freq (10Hz).
as this shows.

Strange is that they have not modify this in the User Manual yet..

Do you have a new version of the linux Keygen that will work with 9.80?

v1.0 is working OK; edit Reactivate-PICC-PRO-9.80 adding the --keyfile switch at the end and then run it.

May You could change "program Files" to Program"
Don't now it will solve the problem, but may it will comply with a  clean output.

I've tested this countless times and used wireshark to detect outbound communication; even disconnected ntpd to have less packets to examine: couldn't find any packet going outbound except dhcp, imgp and dns protocols.

I'm guessing it's something to do with your MAC address; how many network adaptors are in the machine?

Please provide a link to v9.81 for Linux.

I never had 9.80 but I downloaded 9.80a together with mplab x; it didn't activate but I didn't investigate further, just moved on to 9.81 from here: http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=1406&dDocName=en542849

The machine has wlan0 and eth0 (wireless and wired) apart, of course, from loopback. eth0 was always disconnected during the tests which just made with wlan0. You mean that I should completely disable one of them to hide the mac address? And the compiler installation is supposed to be made with net on?

The key is locked to MAC address and I'm guessing that the keygen is finding a different MAC to the compiler. I'll test v9.81 when you upload it and modify the keygen to display the MAC it is locking to.

Just tested with ubuntu inside virtualbox with only one eth1, connected during full process. Got:
Activation error: Key not valid: error 1187

By the way, keygen is working perfectly with 9.81 for windows, just FYI

Seems like the Linux ELF files are now packed and that's why the keygen is not working. I don't know anything about unpacking ELF files but if you can unpack them then a patch would be simple.

When I open the file with hex editor what I see is no ELF header but a script that starts:

So, this is a self-extracting archive made by Makeself.

Perhaps I led you in mistake by compressing the file into .tar.gz? I just didn't want the name of the file to appear indexed on google. I'm sorry if I wasted your time.

So, please either extract from the file you already have with tar or dowload again with a .zip archiving format and try again? http://ifile.it/fgh89td

You can then:

and the filesystem will extract to <anydir> that you have created previously.

I wasn't talking about the install file. I'm referring to the executables; activate & picc in the bin folder.

Yes, I got that; after you uncompress the zip dowloaded file you get picc-9_81-linux.run

If you then run:
# ./picc-9_81-linux.run --noexec --target anydir

you get the file structure inside <anydir> which contains what you want:
anydir/bin/activate
anydir/bin/picc

If necessary, I can upload the whole filesystem tree, please inform.

It looks like the Linux ELF executable files, activate and picc are now packed or protected with something and I am having trouble running them in a debugger. If you try to load activate into a disassembler you'll see what I mean. I don't know anything about unpacking Linux ELF executable files but if you can unpack them then a patch will be simple.

I have to confess that I also don't know much about ELF files but I already learned a lot since this afternoon. I'm mostly a firmware man, on the hardware / software boarder.

I was a windows user up to about four years ago and I must confess that I find debugging / disassembling tools much better on windows (OllyDbg, ...) than on linux. The probable cause is linux applications being opensource (large majority), who wants to reverse engineer them? Linux also doesn't have virus (almost) to study.

That said, I know your final purpose but I don't know how you are planning to get there.

So, I looked for a ELF unpacking tool as you requested and the closest I found was ELFsh, which I don't think can help us.

Also tried gdb with cgdb and xxgdb frontends, Nemiver, objdump with dissy frontend and others, also with no results.

Then, on the disassemble section, which might be what you're looking for, there's something similar to hiew for windows (remember this?). It's called BEYE but used to be BIEW. It's on sourceforge but doesn't have a debian package (I assume you're on debian or derivative). So I compiled it and made a working package. Should I upload it for you?

Please disregard my last few posts about the Linux ELF files being packed/protected. Somehow the v9.81 download got corrupted and it made things look wierd in IDA.

I've tested my HI-TECH Universal RSA Keygen for LINUX on v9.81 and it's working fine; I couldn't reproduce your problems with or without network connection. I even installed Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit) in VMware and tested again and it's OK; with and without network connections.

My original diagnosis, that it's a problem with your MAC address, is again my best guess without further testing.

I'm a bit lost then. Do you have any suggestion on how I should proceed to debug this problem, please?

Yes, unless you're installing everything in your home directory you need root privileges.

Here's a version of the keygen (http://ifile.it/8s4p29g (http://ifile.it/8s4p29g)) that prints the MAC address that it's locking to; it won't fix your problem but it may give a clue to what's causing it. Try it with and without your network connection and report back.

Very strange that the keygen cannot determine your MAC address! One more to try (http://ifile.it/nzvlpek (http://ifile.it/nzvlpek)); enter MAC address manually (NB: maybe case sensitive) and report back.

But you're right, it's case sensitive, uppercase is required on the MAC address.

This is the problem; the keygen locks to eth0 but where is your eth0?

It doesn't have one, probably a leftover, this is an old virtual machine. But I think I already progressed from that so you can forget it.

In fact, I just installed on the physical machine and the problem is that the keygen reports the first nic, eth0, as default when it asks for a MAC addr, whereas the compiler install used wlan0 to communicate with MC because eth0 was down.

So, if I accept the default MAC (eth0), it fails; but if I override to the the wlan0 MAC, it succeeds.

I could, if you find necessary, disconnect wlan0 and make the whole thing using eth0 but I'm almost sure it would succeed. I didn't because I wanted to let you know the news immediately.

I am having problem in compiling an old simple project using picc v9.83 + mplab v8.76.

Let me start by mentioning that I am resuming my PIC activity almost after 18 months. 18 months ago my toolset was mplab v8.36 and hi-tech picc v9.65 (from bunion). I had developed some complex systems using this toolset.

Before resuming my PIC activity again, I thought of updating the toolset to latest ones. So, I installed MPLAB v8.76 and hi-tech picc v9.83 (activated by RSA keygen v2.3 above). I confirmed the activation by 'picc.exe --ver' in command terminal. I am using windows XP Professional with SP3.

After installing latest toolsuite, I tried to compile a very simple project. LED blinking. This is one of the tutorial project that used to build and run successfully with my 18 months old toolset.

The "OPTION variable seems to be not defined in the header file. But it used to work with picc v9.65. Is there any change in SFR while I was away?

Ok, by looking at several header files, I figured that the header format has changed (for good, it seems) and the OPTION is renamed to OPTION_REG.

chip_select.h uses a flag _LEGACY_HEADERS to decide if old or new header files should be used.

As long as it has changed for good, why stick to 'OPTION', just use 'OPTION_REG' and you are done. On the other hand, may be you have to include the legacy header file if it exists, I have not tried or looked at the legacy folder, or use this:

The linux keygen works perfectly with 9.83 in Ubuntu/Debian distros, however I had to migrate to Fedora due to my VLSI related work. Folowing the same procedure with Ubuntu, I confirm that the keygen does not work in Fedora Linux. I have tried both Fedora 15 and 16, the keygen confirms a succesful activation but ./picc --ver in terminal shows the Lite Mode warning. I have tried this using the same computer where the keygen worked with Ubuntu, so it must be a distro problem. Any help would be appreciated!

It should work on any version but you need to manually search and replace RSA key.

If you mean to replace activate.dat I did that (I overwrite original one in /Applications/HI-TECH/picc-18/9.80/bin/).

Thanks to Top I finally did it.
All executable files need to be searched for RSA key (old one) and replaced with context (binary) with generated one (from activate.dat). Now I receive:
