a 12mhz. crystal. Does anyone know if this can be replaced with a 16mhz. crystal . If so, what other changes need to be made. Changing clock frequency would make not to be detected by USB PC hardware (not right timing).

Normally, its a multiple of 6mhz, as the PLL can create a frequency from almost any multiple of 6mhz, and then it gets divided to 24mhz for the USB coms.
