Hi all,
this is a little "motherboard" for the "mature" module ESP-01, but I think that could be handy in some cases...

Short specs: on board serial-USB adapter (CH340), voltage regulator with polyfuse on USB, external power connector, rugged USB B connector, optional 16x GPIO expander, I2C connector, ESP-01 GPIO connector, expander connectors, automatic upload circuitry (Arduino IDE), configurable User key, Reset key, various control leds.

I've designed it for a course. Because it uses a CH340 as serial-USB adapter, this comes handy using it together with  CH340 based Arduino UNO boards, so they share the same driver, and it has a stronger supply compared with chinese boards.

All the details (schematic, gerber, ect...) can be found here: https://hackaday.io/project/154382-esp-01-nanoboard-esp8266

Best regards
