Radio Proximity Cat Collar alarm.

Hi there folks..

My brother has a chicken coup ,that is forever being worried by his cats . (He loves cats so they stay Smiley ).

He'd like to know if its possible to mount a low power radio transmitter that will activate a collar mounted buzzer when the cat collar gets within a 20ft radius the coup.

I took a couple of transmitter / receivers I use in the 433Mhz and 856Mhz range and one of the cheap 315Mhz pairs on half voltage , and all have a far to big a radius in free air.

I also thought about using a bluetooth or zigbee type chipset that could give me a carrier signal strength detection value/threshold ,but haven't found one so far..

To Sum up .. Looking for very low power transmitter and a receiver small enough to fit a cats collar.

Any Ideas ..

TIA Rob.

Shouldn't be that hard to reduce range, you need to detune (is that the correct word), try making it shorter or longer or even attenuate it.

For a domesticated-cat collar, you want to use a loop antenna:

Seriously, mess up the antenna (clip it for instance, or mess up the matching network)
