I saw this e-bike with 12VDC motor and 5 pieces 12V 20AH battery connected in series to get 60VDC. Now there is a 60VDC to 12VDC DC-DC converter to convert this 60VDC back to 12VDC to power the motor.

My question is. Why not directly connect to 12V battery then motor instead of 60V then convert to 12V?

Are you sure the motors are being powered with the dropped down 12V, and not just the accessories like lights?

Usually e-bikes have 24-72V hub motors, so it would make sense that the bike has a 48-60V hub motor not a 12V hub motor as they are uncommon and the step down is for lighting or other accessories...

12v @ 10A is for lights or accessories, not the hub motor...

12V 10A is only 120 watts, it would be a bit under powered for a bike motor.

They are used for lights. I've seen some ebikes with 80 W front lights (12 V @ 6 or 7 amps).
