Just a student... lately I've been working on interfacing the PIC18F with an ENC28J60, and making a network boot loader/programmer.  Yeah, the 18F isn't a great choice for making something like a web server, BUT I think it's nice to be able to build a device that doesn't require a USB connection to the PC in order to transmit data back and forth.  For example, a thermometer probe that reports a temperature with a desired range programmed by the PC.  If you slap a relay onto the PIC18F, you could make a nice and easy temperature controller, maybe... to keep my beer fermenting right at the best temperature possible?  We'll see!!
