I downloaded the PICKit 2 firmware from the Microchip website(http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=1406&dDocName=en023805).
I do not have any PIC burner. I am making a PICKit 2 clone. I am using my Arduino as a PIC programmer(https://sites.google.com/site/thehighspark/arduino-pic18f)

Whenever I am trying to burn the .hex file of the PICKit 2, I am getting this error.

(When I extract the .hex file from the ZIP archive, the size on disk is shown as 90KB in Windows Explorer!!!)

But this problem is specific only to the Microchip supplied .hex file. Any other .hex file I am trying to burn, it gets transferred to the controller successfully.

there are two files for the pickit2, one is the bootloader, and other is the device list updater.

file you need to burn to to chip is PK2V02x000.hex
not pickit.hex Please use the right file name in posts requesting help.

I changed the name of the file after extracting it. The original name of the file was PK2V023200.hex
I downloaded the zip file from this link(http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/PK2V023200.zip)

Is this is the PICKit 2 bootloader?

Is this is the PICKit 2 bootloader?

Yes, that is the PICkit 2 Firmware V2.32 and it should be programmed into a PIC18F2550.

MD5 checksum:
24390a696edd070b066a4e156276ff99

Size:
90.8 KB (93,031 bytes)

It occurs to me that the Arduino PIC18 Programmer might not be able to program the EEPROM area of the 18F2550.

PK2V023200.hex not only contains FLASH locations, but EEPROM locations as well.

I hope this helps.
