« on: January 09, 2013, 02:24:42 14:24 »

I am building a programmer for AVR microcontrollers. USBAsp is fine. However, I am planning to get hands-on AVRISP500 and AVRISP-MK2. Searching on the net got me into two interesting boards built by Olimax. But as usual, they have not shared the schematic for those two programmers.

Can someone share the schematic's of these two programmer's, or any equivalent ones?

Links to Olimax website is:

https://www.olimex.com/Products/AVR/Programmers/AVR-ISP500-TINY/
https://www.olimex.com/Products/AVR/Programmers/AVR-ISP-MK2/

Thanks for the help.

Perhaps you can use the following site for AVR-ISP-MK2

I use this programmer with this firmware and emulate the AVRISP500
Programmer http://www.ebay.es/itm/New-USBASP-USBISP-AVR-Programmer-USB-ATMEGA8-ATMEGA128-/170813851774?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27c54c887e
Firmware and software for emulation http://www.ullihome.de/wiki/USBAVRLab/index

This is the best, you change from avrlab tools software the interface (Programmer).
excuseme for my english.

regards centiane.

Thanks to all those who have replied. I have found Ganymed and hate's response extremely helpful.

@centiane, thanks for your input. However, I am planning to build one, rather than a readymade one.

sounds like a strange request to me; original AVRISP mkII costs $35, as a hobbyist, is it worth the cloning effort, how much will you save, $10, $15? What's wrong with USBAsp? Any way, look at this page: http://fun4diy.com/AVRISP_mkII.htm

Oh ok, at first I thought someone has cloned the USB version at last. Wink Unfortunately it's still too expensive to own. Does anyone have any information about a USB clone?

Interesting how it can be cloned using a single ATMega8, as i have it in front of me now then here is the internal picture of the original one.

Anyway, i read somewhere that the olimex one is based on LUFA just google for it - and as a side note, the author of it now working in Atmel (?).

Did you happen to get hold of this yet? If yes, can you post it here please?

I may not save 10$. I might even spend another $10 above $35. But it is the interest which makes me do this. I know I am reinventing the wheel, but I feel it is worth knowing it  Grin

Thanks everyone for the support.

follow up:

I did some reading about that Ichan, it is not really interesting!
AVRISP mkII has a protection circuit which the clone lacks.

which page did you mean Ichan?

What i meant is the file "Building Programmer AVRISP MKII USB.rar" from reply #10, i only quick read it.

Looks like it is an usbasp variant, google search pointing me to USB AVR Lab with many firmware variant. I did built usbasp once, found it not very stable - some power glitch on the target can make the usb connection lost.

Yea, the hardware is very simple compared to the original one, and i doubt it can be firmware upgraded by AVR Studio.
