Hi,

I just want to know the basic difference between Many-Time Programmable Flash (MTP) and Multi-Purpose Flash (MPF) devices.

I tried to search on google but not found appropriate answer.

Presently we are using MTP in our products and want to use MPF if it is suitable or same,  I study the datasheet and found no difference,  pin to pin same.

Presently I don't have MPF device in my hand,  thus I am unable to check physically.

Here the link of both parts .

MTP > http://www.greenliant.com/products/?inode=47115
MPF > http://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/Devices.aspx?dDocName=en549492

thanks in advance.

Endurance. Take a look at the number of cycles you can write it.

MTP is only 1000 times from the looks of it. Sounds like they are using the same kind of technique as a company named Impinj invented. More like NSMTP (Not So Many Times Programmable).

MPF looks like classical flash memory endurance. 100k cycles.

Means,  MPF in general terms better device than MPT.

If our purpose solved in MTP,  we can use MPF without any downside.

Also,  MTP require 12V to erase the chip,  MPF require same 5V to erase  - it handled by the programmer,  thats whey PIN No. 1 they kept "NC"

thanks

There is no such thing as "better" if you don't define the criteria of your application.
