Hans Camenzind, the analog guru who invented one of the most successful circuits in electronics history, the famous 555 and introduced the concept of phase-locked loop to IC design, passed away in his sleep at the age of 78 on August 15, 2012. He designed the first integrated class D amplifier, he also wrote a great introductory book on analog chip design called "Desigining Analog Chips". I guess a lot of the analog gurus are reaching end-of-life. We lost Bob Pease last year (June 2011) as he was returning from Jim Williams' funeral. Jim Williams was a founder and principle at Linear Technology.

Not as long as Sonsivri is alive and kicking :-) So the big question arises - were any of these old-fart greats, ones whose last names were on the circuits we studied in school, members here? (don't answer that please, mods - the mystery is better left unanswered). |

I think the 555 was the way in the world of electronics for a lot of us. It is probably the most know electronic device in the world along with the BC547, the 1n4148 and the 7805  Hans Camenzind as is own place in history. The body gave up, but the soul remains. Rest in peace. |

I sold many flashers based on 555! and many of them are still working up to this moment, all of them were built on a small piece of veroboard and dipped in varnish : )
