Tomorrow's robots, which includes the humanoid robot, can perform task like tutoring children, working as tour guides, driving humans to and from work, do the family shopping etc. Tomorrow's robots will enhance lives in ways we never dreamed possible. No time to attend the decisive meeting on Asian strategy? Let your robot go for you and make the decisions. Not feeling well enough to go to the clinic? Let Dr Robot come to you, make a diagnosis, and get you the necessary medicine for treatment. No time to coach the soccer team this week? Let the robot do it for you. Tomorrow's robots will be the most exciting and revolutionary things to happen to the world since the invention of the automobile. It will change the way we work, play, think, and live. Because of this, nowadays robotics is one of the most dynamic fields of scientific research.

Description

Robotics, Second Edition is an essential addition to the toolbox of any engineer or hobbyist involved in the design of any type of robot or automated mechanical system. It is the only book available that takes the reader through a step-by step design process in this rapidly advancing specialty area of machine design.

This book provides the professional engineer and student with important and detailed methods and examples of how to design the mechanical parts of robots and automated systems. Most robotics and automation books today emphasis the electrical and control aspects of design without any practical coverage of how to design and build the components, the machine or the system. The author draws on his years of industrial design experience to show the reader the design process by focusing on the real, physical parts of robots and automated systems.

Build A Remote-Controlled Robot by David R. Shircliff (Author)
Publisher: McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics; 1 edition (March 25, 2002) | ISBN-10: 0071385436 | PDF | 1.2 Mb | 112 pages

TAB Electronics is the premier name in amateur robotics. Since the 1987 release of Gordon McComb's blockbuster Robot Builder's Bonanza hobbyists have looked to TAB as the source for cutting-edge, how-to robotics titles.
These groundbreaking, heavily illustrated books explain how to create everythinbg from basic, simple robots to ones that walk, see, feel, talk, listen and fight! Written by "professors of robotics" such as Gordon McComb and John Iovine, they're great for beginners as well as experienced robot builders.
Authoritative, innovative, fun, and always far ahead of anyone else, TAB continues the tradition with Build Your Own Remote-Controlled Robot.

Handbook of Robotics

Robotics is undergoing a major transformation in scope and dimension. Starting from a predominantly industrial focus, robotics has been rapidly expanding into the challenges of unstructured environments.  It presents a widespread and well-structured coverage from the foundations of robotics, through the consolidated methodologies and technologies, up to the new emerging application areas of robotics. The handbook is an ideal resource for robotics experts but also for people new to this expanding field such as engineers, medical doctors, computer scientists, designers; edited by two internationally renowned experts.

Rehabilitation Robotics
Edited by: Sashi S Kommu
ISBN-13: 978-3902613042
hardcover: 648 pages
Publisher: I-Tech Education and Publishing, Vienna, Austria
Publication date: August 2007

About the Book

The coupling of several areas of the medical field with recent advances in robotic systems has seen a paradigm shift in our approach to selected sectors of medical care, especially over the last decade. Rehabilitation medicine is one such area. The development of advanced robotic systems has ushered with it an exponential number of trials and experiments aimed at optimising restoration of quality of life to those who are physically debilitated. Despite these developments, there remains a paucity in the presentation of these advances in the form of a comprehensive tool. This book was written to present the most recent advances in rehabilitation robotics known to date from the perspective of some of the leading experts in the field and presents an interesting array of developments put into 33 comprehensive chapters. The chapters are presented in a way that the reader will get a seamless impression of the current concepts of optimal modes of both experimental and ap- plicable roles of robotic devices.

Parallel Manipulators, New Developments

by Jee-Hwan Ryu

ISBN 978-3-902613-20-2
hard cover, 498 pages
Publisher: I-Tech Education and Publishing, Vienna, Austria
Publication date: April 2008

Parallel manipulators are characterized as having closed-loop kinematic chains. Compared to serial manipulators, which have open-ended structure, parallel manipulators have many advantages in terms of accuracy, rigidity and ability to manipulate heavy loads. Therefore, they have been getting many attentions in astronomy to flight simulators and especially in machine-tool industries. The aim of this book is to provide an overview of the state-of-art, to present new ideas, original results and practical experiences in parallel manipulators. This book mainly introduces advanced kinematic and dynamic analysis methods and cutting edge control technologies for parallel manipulators. Even though this book only contains several samples of research activities on parallel manipulators, I believe this book can give an idea to the reader about what has been done in the field recently, and what kind of open problems are in this area.

Parallel Manipulators, Towards New Applications

By Huapeng Wu

ISBN 978-3-902613-40-0
hard cover, 506 pages
Publisher: I-Tech Education and Publishing, Vienna, Austria
Publication date: April 2008

In recent years, parallel kinematics mechanisms have attracted a lot of attention from the academic and industrial communities due to potential applications not only as robot manipulators but also as machine tools. Generally, the criteria used to compare the performance of traditional serial robots and parallel robots are the workspace, the ratio between the payload and the robot mass, accuracy, and dynamic behaviour. In addition to the reduced coupling effect between joints, parallel robots bring the benefits of much higher payload-robot mass ratios, superior accuracy and greater stiffness; qualities which lead to better dynamic performance. The main drawback with parallel robots is the relatively small workspace.A great deal of research on parallel robots has been carried out worldwide, and a large number of parallel mechanism systems have been built for various applications, such as remote handling, machine tools, medical robots, simulators, micro-robots, and humanoid robots. This book opens a window to exceptional research and development work on parallel mechanisms contributed by authors from around the world. Through this window the reader can get a good view of current parallel robot research and applications.

Robotic Soccer

By Pedro Lima

ISBN 978-3-902613-21-9
hard cover, 598 pages
Publisher: I-Tech Education and Publishing, Vienna, Austria
Publication date: December 2007

Many papers in the book concern advanced research on (multi-)robot subsystems, naturally motivated by the challenges posed by robot soccer, but certainly applicable to other domains: reasoning, multi-criteria decision-making, behavior and team coordination, cooperative perception, localization, mobility systems (namely omni-directional wheeled motion, as well as quadruped and biped locomotion, all strongly developed within RoboCup), and even a couple of papers on a topic apparently solved before Soccer Robotics – color segmentation – but for which several new algorithms were introduced since the mid-nineties by researchers on the field, to solve dynamic illumination and fast color segmentation problems, among others. This book is certainly a small sample of the research activity on Soccer Robotics going on around the globe as you read it, but it surely covers a good deal of what has been done in the field recently, and as such it works as a valuable source for researchers interested in the involved subjects, whether they are currently “soccer roboticists” or not.

This book presents a unique combination of mobile robots and embedded systems, from introductory to intermediate level. It is structured in three parts, dealing with embedded systems (hardware and software design, actuators, sensors, PID control, multitasking), mobile robot design (driving, balancing, walking, and flying robots), and mobile robot applications (mapping, robot soccer, genetic algorithms, neural networks, behavior-based systems, and simulation). The book is written as a text for courses in computer science, computer engineering, IT, electronic engineering, and mechatronics, as well as a guide for robot hobbyists and researchers.

Summary: A treasure chest of ideas
Rating: 5

This book is a real treasure chest of ideas for an amateur robot builder. It does not show solutions in enough detail to copy them, but it points you in the right direction.

For me some of the most interesting topics covered were:
- Motorola M68332 based general purpose robot controller board,
- Introduction to different robot competitions,
- Simplified image processing solutions,
- Walking robots and evolutionary programs to control the gait,
- Examples of real life robots.

Summary: Comments to Embedded Robotics
Rating: 4

Hi, so far the book is a little dissapointeing, because is to much centered to a commercial hardware (EyeCon) that is somewhat hard to adquiere to a group that has a very low budget for that kind of projects... but is important to have a reference. That is why it deserve a 3. But also supply a very important source of information for sensors and actuators design. That is why i gave an average of 4 stars.

Best regards, and thanks for all the effort you made for me enjoying this book.

Summary: the best book for student
Rating: 5

After I have read the book contents, I think it is a great book fo me. From this book, I can get many new knowledge, including many field. I want this book to guide my student to take part in

Yoseph Bar-Cohen, David Hanson, "The Coming Robot Revolution: Expectations and Fears About Emerging Intelligent, Humanlike Machines"

Publisher:Springer
ISBN: 0387853480
2009
PDF
174 pages
5.7 Mb PDF

Product Description:

This book discusses the emergence of humanlike robots into our everyday world. It covers the trends, possibilities, and concerns we will all feel with their emergence. Robots will walk, talk, and look ever more like people, and with the speed at which new technologies develop, this may happen very soon. Robots will be in homes, in space, in workplaces, in hospitals--everywhere. Their capabilities will soon surpass what has been usually considered science fiction. In what directions will the technology be taking us, and how will the presence of these robots challenge our identity? This book explores the fascinating implications of robot technology while alerting of its possibly disturbing flipside.

Summary: accessible to a general audience
Rating: 4

For several years, Springer has been publishing a well regarded set of books on robotics, including recently the massive Springer Handbook of Robotics. But these books were often monographs, intelligible only to researchers in the field. In contrast this current book is accessible to a lay audience.

Like the monographs, each chapter has a considerable list of references and websites. But there is no maths. No equations about control systems theory, about stabilising a dynamical system, for instance. Plus no low level hardware descriptions of actuator mechanics, as another example.

Instead the narrative is kept quite general. It gives a global survey of efforts to develop often humanoid looking robots. Which is another difference from the above mentioned handbook, which went into considerable details about some thoroughly non-humanoid specimens. Bar-Cohen and Hanson stuck to the former, which may be an appeal of this book to some readers.

The book reveals that we have a long way to go before reaching anything like an "intelligent" robot. There are photos in the book of apparently lifelike robots. But these are superficial short cuts, where the robots' exteriors were essentially mannikins. When it comes to actual behaviour and an underlying intelligence, these are early days.

In passing, the book also shows that Japan is making a strong push in this field of humanoid robots. Which reflects in part the aging demographics of their society and the need for ever increasing automation, as well as for companions for humans.

Jean-Christophe Zufferey "Bio-inspired Flying Robots: Experimental Synthesis of Autonomous Indoor Flyers (Engineering Sciencs: Microtechnology)"

EFPL Press
English
2008-04-24
ISBN: 1420066846
250 pages
PDF
81,5 MB  <------------------Warning

This book demonstrates how bio-inspiration can lead to fully autonomous flying robots. From sensor suite to control strategies, the literature on flying insects is reviewed from an engineering perspective in order to extract useful principles that are then applied to the synthesis of artificial indoor flyers. Artificial evolution is also utilized to search for alternative control systems and behaviours that match the constraints of small flying robots. Specifically, the basic sensory modalities of insects, vision, gyroscopes and airflow sense, are applied to develop navigation controllers for indoor flying robots.

Ranjan Vepa "Biomimetic Robotics: Mechanisms and Control"

Cambridge University Press
English
2009-01-26
ISBN: 0521895944
360 pages
PDF
1,8 MB

This book is written as an initial course in robotics. It is ideal for study of unmanned aerial or underwater vehicles, a topic on which few books exist. It presents the fundamentals of robotics, from an aerospace perspective, by considering only the field of robot mechanisms. For an aerospace engineer, three dimensional and parallel mechanisms - flight simulation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and space robotics - take on an added significance. Biomimetic robot mechanisms are fundamental to manipulators, walking, mobile, and flying robots. As a distinguishing feature, this book gives a unified and integrated treatment of biomimetic robot mechanisms. It is ideal preparation for the next robotics module: practical robot control design. While the book focuses on principles, computational procedures are also given due importance. Students are encouraged to use computational tools to solve the examples in the exercises. The author has also included some additional topics beyond his course coverage for the enthusiastic reader to explore.

Giancarlo Genta, "Introduction to the Mechanics of Space Robots"
Publisher: S,,in,,r | ISBN: 9400717954 | 2011 | PDF | 618 pages | 8 MB

Based on lecture notes on a space robotics course, this book offers a pedagogical introduction to the mechanics of space robots. After presenting an overview of the environments and conditions space robots have to work in, the author discusses a variety of manipulatory devices robots may use to perform their tasks. This is followed by a discussion of robot mobility in these environments and the various technical approaches. The last two chapters are dedicated to actuators, sensors and power systems used in space robots. This book fills a gap in the space technology literature and will be useful for students and for those who have an interest in the broad and highly interdisciplinary field of space robotics, and in particular in its mechanical aspects.

What has your post here http://www.sonsivri.to/forum/index.php?board=23.0,
got to do with Robotics?
You posted the same post there, saying we did not have Robot Section, (hint edit your posting may save you being Muted).
:---- Also Rules About Double Posting Ignored -----

Sorry. My mistake. I had not seen this section before and posted it there. Now I have deleted the contents in that post so to avoid duplication. All I did was to take atmost care to follow all rules. But somehow got muted.

Well, will try to follow all rules from now on. Kindly suggest how to get unmuted.
