I wonder if they still rely on polling the interrupt flag after each PicBasic instruction, rather than using interrupts as their name implies.

Hi oldvan,

I agree with you, there are not the best for managing interrupts.

However, I had found a very good library for PICBASIC PRO for manage interrupts in real time like in ASM and not by pollint IT Flag.
You can also, have the capability to uses PICBASIC sentenses into interrupt sub-routine, that's great.
This library exists for PIC16... and PIC18... and there are some exemples.

Here is the link for PIC18 : http://darreltaylor.com/DT_INTS-18/home.html
Here is the link for PIC16 : http://darreltaylor.com/DT_INTS-14/intro.html

May be this helps somebody

Best regards.

Hi pertican,

the size is big because it includes : MPASM v8.73, Microcode Studio 5 for PBP v3, PBP v3.0.1 and PBP manuals.

The file is an exe installer, so it  is not possible to have only PBP v3.0.1 or other parts, the simplest way is to install it and get what you want.

Best regards.

It looks like MEL sold PBP to Microchip ...

Quote from the Readme.txt file:

PM Assembler
The PM.EXE Assembler reached end-of-life with PBP 3.0.0.0.
It is no longer included in the PBP installation.  PBP needs MPASM or MPASMX in order to function.

You think it will be better in the future concerning the features it has missed since I was a young man?

Yes, although MEL did a nice job (in my opinion) they now also could have a better (financial) backing, I got the feeling they were "on hold".
I guess PBP will not disappear soon, from under this umbrella, but might grow.

Yes, I agree, no one can deny this fact, especially when mikroE compilers used to be so much buggy and producing large codes.

I hope too :- )

that seems to be good new as PBP may be better supported.  this may encourage me to start using it or recommend it to students who prefer basic to C.
