PIC12F675 based serial voltmeter and ammeter with min and max values.

Settings in the HEX file are for:
RS232 2400/8/NONE/1/NOT inverted
Measure on 1s interval
Value of the shunt resistor is 1R

Those settings can be changed in attached PBP file.

Best regards Ivan Kalpakchiev

Hi FriskyFerret, you are right but my intention is to keep the count of the parts in that project as low as possible.

The value of Shunt resistor depends on the range of current that is supposed to be measured and in PBP program there аrе mentioned values from 0.5R up to 10R.

After all the device is supposed to be inexpensive and constructed with what you have around in the parts box  Cheesy.

If we are talking about V an I meter as a precision instrument then yes there are dedicated solutions out there.

Thanks a lot for your comment
Best regards

Hi FriskyFerret, I do not want to argue with you, but having in mind my previous post I still think that it is better to keep things simple if it is possible.

BUT, in this line of thought, would you mind, if you redesign the schematic proposed by me in your way- adding an OpAmp and moving the shunt R to the positive side and I will change the PBP code if it is necessary.

This way we can show together both ways to complete the same task and every one can choose the best way for his specific purpose.

Best regards and many thanks in advance for your kind cooperation.

Topic being watched with intrest, with both with a Technical and a Civil intrest.

so play nice.

Just a note: if you take the sample point imes from a live ciruit, and do the sums, then it becomes part of the design.

Sorry, but I am not sure what do yo mean with this one, is it about a part of PBP code?

So go and take your hallmarks elsewhere..

Other than that, you are doing a pretty good job kalpakchiev.
I am glad it is no longer using your hallmark PIC16F84   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

PIC16F785 can be an alternative, it has 2 opamp inside.

I ever had an idea to measure / test a power supply with this one as picture attached, workable?

But only one with internal Op-Amp, the R Shunt can be 100x smaller.
