Oink!

This is just a 'heads-up' for anyone using the Filesonic service to share files.

Filesonic (and their other names) does not work in the UK, and possibly other locations. In the UK we have a self-appointed and self-regulated private company called IWF (Internet Watchdog Foundation) that is used as a transparent proxy by most UK ISP's.

They like to think that they are the police and have the capability to completely block anything they wish from being available to UK users, and they frequently do so. They have even blocked the Wikipedia before!

They seem to have put a block on anything being downloaded from Filesonic. Everything appears to work until you should actually get the 'save file' dialogue, then it stops. Sometimes it works but mostly it doesn't.

This is a 'known issue' with all UK ISP's and the IWF; none of whom are interested in doing anything about it and will usually plead ignorance of it until pressed. They don't want to openly admit that we are being heavily censored by a private, profit-making company!

Anyway, the upshot is that uploading stuff to share to Filesonic and its affiliates limits distribution. That's why there are quite a few 'please upload to somewhere else' posts in the software sections.

Rick.
