The problem with CCS is that the updates are not just for new parts or newer performance. There are always fixes from bad coding.
WHEN WILL THEY EVER HAVE A STABLE PRODUCT?

CCS has issues but so do most compilers. Others release versions once or twice per year if that and fix many bugs that go unnoticed unless you are one of those stymied by a bug. How many bugs did Microsoft fix with Win7? It was never disclosed. CCS fixes rapidly and you have the choice of staying with an earlier version ( the best of both worlds). Sure everyone knows CCS fixed things so some will see that as a negative. CCS is as good or better a compiler as any. Microchip device updates are frequent interfaces to hardware is efficient with the many built in functions code is compact.

Good point on one side of fixing the bugs quickly, but still, these symptoms imply a bad active team. You can't compare to windows, can you? The size of windows Project is very large, and you come to compare it to a small compiler?
Built-in libs makes the compiler a nice tool to work with, but when frequent updates are flooded this way, users will no longer feel safe using it.

the real problem is they dont test updates before they release them.
Also they don't itemise the bug fixes in detail, so its hard to know whether a bug you have has been fixed.
the main problem is with the PCD for 16 bit devices. its a kludge, not written from scratch, so it really is a dodgy compiler for PIC24 and DsPIC.

Just tested that link. Works fine here with the PCD compiler (as well as the others). Try generating the license files again.

Don't use 4.114 if you are using pic18 chips and using the built in set_timer2() command. It will drive you insane.... the compiler programs the wrong register and the timer never runs. You end up having to do it all manually. Once you start programming registers manually, you might as well just use the C18 compiler from Microchip. How the **** could they screw up one of their basic old old old commands??? The CCS compiler is a mess.

for.................... set_timer2(0); the CCS 4114 compiler generates 00118: CLRF FCC where FCC is the address of the TMR2 register I don't see the issue, Ive never had the issue and if it did exist its just one line of code to fix.
Now timer2 is an 8 bit timer so if set via a variable the variable needs to be 8 bits or cast to 8 bits There are some minor issues ( Microchip issues) with 16 bit timers and interrupts. With 8 bit registers it takes two operations to set a 16 bit counter. An interrupt could possibly occur between the two operations. It is standard good coding practice to disable interrupts when posting to 16bit or more variables that are used within interrupt service routines.This practice avoids the rare possibility that a half updated value is used in an isr.

Sorry, I meant to type setup_timer2(), not set_timer2. Whoops! See this post on the CCS forums: http://ccsinfo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44166&highlight=114Same problem with the ccp2 setup... see this post (from PCM Programmer, about halfway down): http://ccsinfo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44564&highlight=setuptimer2Of course its possible to set those registers manually. Might as well just use C18 in that case though. I've used CCS in the past for banging together quick test code. Not any more I guess. I actually had a full paid for version up until around 4.080 or so but finally gave up. The 24/30/33 compiler remained a piece of crap even after all those revisions and I was having to use C30 anyhow, so I gave up and quit renewing year after year. I still have a tiny hope that they'll sort it all out one day and I'll be able to come back, but its likely a lost cause at this point.

Well there are many types of LCD and many ways they can have issues. First you need to know whether your LCD has a controller. If it doesn't have a controller this will be a very difficult project for you. Is the LCD character or graphic or both. Is it a serial interface ( rs232 I2C SPI) or parallel If parallel is it a 4 bit or 8 bit interface. Does it have the correct bias voltage to provide contrast. When all that is known next comes the initialization an initial command is often sent then a delay before sending additional commands. LCD.C is a template rather than a universal solution.

Hi, thanks for replying, the problem is that the new version of the code lcd.c changed, now lcd.c no works This is a sample code: #include <16F873A.h> #FUSES NOWDT //No Watch Dog Timer #FUSES XT //Crystal osc <= 4mhz for PCM/PCH , 3mhz to 10 mhz for PCD #FUSES NOPUT //No Power Up Timer #FUSES NOBROWNOUT //No brownout reset #FUSES NOLVP //No low voltage prgming, B3(PIC16) or B5(PIC18) used for I/O #FUSES NOCPD //No EE protection #FUSES NOWRT //Program memory not write protected #FUSES NODEBUG //No Debug mode for ICD #FUSES NOPROTECT //Code not protected from reading
#use delay(clock=4000000) #define LCD_ENABLE_PIN PIN_B0 #define LCD_RS_PIN PIN_B1 #define LCD_RW_PIN PIN_B2 #define LCD_DATA4 PIN_B4 #define LCD_DATA5 PIN_B5 #define LCD_DATA6 PIN_B6 #define LCD_DATA7 PIN_B7
#include <lcd.c>
void main() { lcd_init(); lcd_gotoxy(1,1); printf(lcd_putc,"Helo World");
while(TRUE){ }
}
I downloaded the compiler from the following link provided on this site: http://www.4shared.com/file/l1ZEIjms/CCS_PCWHD_4114.htmlupload simulation here.

There isn't enough information to help you. The code snippet suggests a 4 bit parallel interface to a LCD controller. The printf(lcd_putc,"Helo World"); is a recursive call . This is a feature of CCS in that they take each character from the string starting with "H" and call lcd_putc. It is called several times until the string is fully read. Now lcdputc in turn has to break the char into two nibbles and call the LCD interface for each nibble. It also has to not exceed any LCD timing issues. Simulation is helpful but often leads to the expectation that what is artificial can become real. The real PCB circuit and components will if you are lucky behave as simulated. The more complex the project the more the risk that it won't.

there is a problem in lcd.c library. i'm using 18f4550. i want to use portd for lcd. i can use lcd with my own lcd library, but i cant use portd pins with lcd.c. i disable the spp module, but still it doesnt work. here is the pin connection(i'm using ccsc 4.114) #include <lcd.c> #define ENABLE_PIN D3 #define RS_PIN D2 #define RW_PIN D0 #define Data4 D4 #define Data5 D5 #define Data6 D6 #define Data7 D7

Well again you aren't disclosing the error messages you get just that it doesn't work with lcd.c You may know this but in case you don't #defines are like the replace function in a word processor. The compiler jut replaces the expression on the left with the expression on the right so #define Data4 D4 means Data4 is replaced with D4 but now that means D4 also needs to be defined. Typically it would be #define D4 PIN_D4 and PIN_D4 in turn is redefined by the compiler to be a numbered pin where the number is specific to the pic chip ( this part is automatic after you specify the device( chip) so you don't need to define PIN_D4).

hi
something goes wrong with fileserve as free user. I download(many times) the pc4124.exe with size 1.31MBytes instead of 22.51Mbytes. Can someone reupload both files to ifile.it for example.

Just a suggestion.
Could you do as in the thread for Labcenter Proteus, centralizing all the important links in an untouchable main post in this same thread? So we could follow the changes easily without polluting the thread with comments.
Something like:
Date: Dec 20, 1980 CCS 4.100: link (keygen not provided) Keygen: link
Cheers

Hello, I install CCS v4.128 and MPLAB®IDE Plug-in. I run the ccs and i make build in my code and works ok. When i try to make build via mplab shows me a message "registration file error' in picture below. Also i install version CCS v4.108 and shows me the same message. I have windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. Thanks.

You may know this but in case you don't... MPLAB comes with a free version of the CSS
In the picture, it would seem that you are using the free version and not the "FULL" one

Some compiler vendors update every 6 months leaving customers long periods in which workarounds are the only solution. Others like CCS have a compiler that can have several versions installed simultaneously on a single PC. CCS has a stable version and the latest version with the weekly or daily fixes. If there is an issue that the latest version fixes then there is no need for a workaround if there is no issue then the stable version suffices. If the issue isn't fixed in the latest version then the next version may address it. Some never having experienced the necessity of using workarounds for months on end aren't understanding the value of a rapid versioning approach. If rapid versioning is a problem then only using the CCS stable version and waiting several months for the next one is always available as a choice.

Hello, it looks like there is a pretty nasty bug in 4.138 with respect to making pointers to functions. Previously the code always compiled, now it does not.
Does anyone have the 4.140 version?
Happy New Years!

I compiled several projects with 4.140 and they are ok. Try uninstalling and making a clean install. I'm using Windows 7 x64 home premium.

No, it is v4.141. You can see someone ask question about v4.141 here : http://www.ccsinfo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=172815
