Hello:

I'm in need of an opto-isolated motor speed controller. The PWM will be provided from PC through LPT port and will be driven an AC motor (220V). In this way I can control the speed of the AC motor (e.g. AC FAN) from PC. But it has to be opto-isolated so that the PC will be isolated from the AC mains.

I'm actually going to design my own but it will save my time (desing, debug & testing etc.) if somebody already has designed similar.

Thank you in advance.

Is the fan motor 1 or 3 phase?

It will be a single phase motor about 2 HP.

How about use a TRIAC, a DIAC and an OPTO-ISOLATOR (few more components to complete). Or you can buy a SSR (Solid State Relay) and connects it to an Opto-isolator to control. You don't really need high speed opto to control.

I suggest get some informations (or data sheet) about Triac, Diac, opto-isolator and SSR before you build one.
