I see Sonsivri as a wonderful place for learning.  In that spirit, a bit of learning what the holiday Eid celebrates seems in order.

Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. In that spirit, Happy Eid, to all my Muslim friends.  Celebrate with a large and health-giving meal!!!

I'm not Muslim, but it was a WONDERFUL and SUNNY day here in Western New York state USA, so my wife and I celebrated with a 7-mile walk.  We both enjoyesd it thoroughly.  I find the exercise helps to organize my mind and work goes smoother afterward.

This is a clear case of offending the forum rule # 2.

It is not allowed to break the forum-rules in any section.. not even in general.
That is how I interpreted the rules when I did the translation.

I think it is necessary to:
either take action to make ALL members to understand they have to follow the rules,
no matter if the reason for breaking them in the first place is because they are happy or mad..
or else delete the rules because they are not valid anymore for all members..
Deleting the rules would be a bad idea because then we soon will have a very bad forum with anarchy and not much exchange of electronic knowledge.

I am not a Muslim, but I think saying Happy Eid is akin to saying Happy New year, or Happy Tet,
or Happy Yom Kippur, or Happy shōgatsu or Happy Mardi Gras , Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Puthandu,
 Cheiroba, Kong Hee Fat Choi, or any other passing of year congratulatory sayings.

It have no bearing in religion or politics, it is just Customs.

So to my friends that observe the customs, Happy Eid, may you, your family, your friends and your enemies enjoy plenty more.

I believe we are missing up things here.

I agree that no Political or religion talks are allowed. That is more than a rule basically. It is common sense to keep this paradise for every one. The point here is to avoid flaming discussions as pointed by many friends. However, flaming can happen only if the post is offending someone, or DISCUSSING some Political or religion issue. On the other hand, expressing your feeling by congratulating  your friends is has nothing to flam any thing at all unless someone does not have the intention or is not happy to congratulate his friends.

Therefore, I would consider this topic out of rules if it would discuss some religious topic BUT not Congratulating friends.

So, please, do not drag this to be a discussion about Eid and what is Eid ...etc. That is a discussion. So, notes5  and others could just keep silent. Their wording as if they say "we are not happy to congratulate Muslims".

In short, Congratulating is not a discussion and cannot not be regarded as such.

Congratulation to Muslims for Eid. Congratulation to Christians. Congratulation to Jews. Congratulation to Every body whenever he or she is happy [without discussing] .  If someone wants to discuss it, please find another place.

Sharing stuff is ok, even you can share your happiness. In this context you can celebrate anything you want, it will make people get to know each other. But religional celebration is not ok, it is clearly against rule #2. Because of if you celebrate religion, then everyone breakes apart. It's like "english only" rule. If you want to talk about rule, lets talk. But while rule is functioning, you can't abuse it. Even talking about religion itself is created difference in this very topic. And everyone took their own battle fronts. It is strictly prohibited. If you want to celebrate, we understand that but you can do it in other forums. We, here, trying to create union. Just don't break it huh? You may claim celebration won't break anything, yes it does, it ignites the flame.

And I don't understand why are you so mad about celebrate things? If you want to celebrate, lets crack proteus. Don't you see everyone is tense and sensitive about this religional stuff? I didn't see any christian or jewish celebration yet (there might be some but never got into my eyes). Also lemme remind you; this rule is first time applied by rego, who is muslim. Manner of speaking, I live in muslim country too.

P.S: As I recall happy new year is different than celebrating noel. Noel is a religional thingy.

I think nothing wrong to say "Happy Eid" in any forum, it is comparable to "Merry Christmast" which is can be found easily in this forum.

I need to quote some text from the wiki link given above:

It is common to greet people with "Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri" or "Salam Aidilfitri" (in Malaysia) which means "Happy Eid". Muslims also greet one another with "mohon maaf lahir dan batin" in Indonesia and "maaf zahir dan batin" in Malaysia, which means "Forgive my physical and emotional (wrongdoings)", because Eid ul-Fitr is not only for celebrations but also the time for Muslims to ask for forgiveness for any sin which they may have committed but was cleansed as a result of the fasting in the Muslim month of Ramadan.

When your words become famous enough like xmas, then we can talk about those. But unfortunately those are unknown stuff to me now. xmas might celebrated, but it is very diferent. There are 10 days between xmas and new year and people got know wrong. In our country we use Gilette and Walkman as a product name, but those are brand names. Xmas and happy new year is same too. Also I know muslims celebrated xmas here, they meant hapy new year but used wrong word. So happy new year is common for everyone, and not religional. Using wrong word is not makes it religional.

First one is 3 years old post, lots of things changed from those days. Probably rule wasn't applying because rule is written by that member who wrote the first post.

I'm sorry notes5 this section is unmoderated, so we mods can't delete or lock topics, the only thing I could do was to report this post as wrong.
but I believe in rule 2, and hope it don't start a flame war. I also think your wrong to want to leave us, becouse of this.

You and a lot of others post and don't comment on the things that are effected by say rule 2.
as in my first post I said saying "good day, happy new year" and so on, don't get reported as being against the rules.

maybe such post that are made saying "happy xxxx" should be deleted the next day after the event, and not left in topics.
but then I/we are then changing the rules, but we were told to read the rules, when we signed up on forum.
