Useful info about MPLABX installer.

In case Installer stays forever locked at the last step before starting copying files....

the way out is:

create a new user with admin privilege...

Install the product from this new user.

That's all.

2 be honest I think this issue is not related to the installer.
As a matter of fact I had v4.01 installed...then I uninstalled it before installing the new 4.05, and at this point I was not able to install both 4.05 and 4.01 for the same up written issue.

I think is related to windows 10 updates...

I can even confirm you that I am not the only one that had this problem.
