Letter microchip sent out about order times delay. Looks like 2014 for any new chips.
Despite my sending you several letters this year, many customers are either still not
aware of this broad-based trend or are unable to forecast their requirements.
Therefore, these customers are expecting Microchip to deliver products in short order.
Given the current environment, our lead times are about 8 to 16 weeks for most of
Microchip’s products, and 12 to 16 weeks for our SMSC products that we acquired last
year. This is because 100% of our SMSC products are outsourced, and the foundries
have a fairly long queue for any new wafer starts.
We need your help. We are again requesting that all of our customers and distributors
provide us with 12 to 16 weeks of backlog, as soon as possible. The availability of our
products that are required within calendar year 2013 and booked after the end of
September will be by exception only, and most will require an expedite charge.
