Hello You can use PicKit 2 for programming and debuging some pic. Otherwise you can use ICD2 but the price isn't the same  |

I can supply you schematic for simple one, I already made, and it work well with MPLAB.
Parts are minimum cost.

If you can't make one, you can always use the PicStart Plus...it's supported automatically thru MPLab and is a well made unit....I used one for years until it died from neglect after I discovered AVRs...

If you decide to build a programmer, you also may like to build ICD2 clone, programmer and in-circuit-debugger. Complete information you will find here: http://stolz.de.be/I made that one also, two years ago, it work very well with MPLAB. If you need any additional information, just write a note. |

I use PICkit2 and it works very nice. Before PICkit2, I used a home made programmer based on AN589(application note 589) from Microchip. But this programmed it was not very reliable(because I couldn't find proper components and I built it quick¬ carefull).
If you want to have a good&cheap programmer that will work anytime and with almost all PICs, I advice you to buy PICkit2.

Hi, I tested several programmers according to AN-589 and the ONLY one which worked for me was the WINPIC: see link at http://www.qsl.net/dl4yhf/winpicpr.htmlbecause for some strange reason, it was the only one who could make use of the parallel port of my old notebook where I make this kind of experiments. In other programmer´s software, the prog. operation just failed. I am not saying they are doing something wrong, just my pc with win98 is fooling around the parallel port when the programmer wants to make use of it. Besides the AN-589 type, the winpic supports most of available hardwares, it is possible to define new devides to program and best of all...is free and the support from the developer is top class. regards |
