«

I am new to ATMEL AVR I am using ATMEGA8515 And PONYPROG IS USED TO PROGRAM AVR I am using LPT programmer ,Programmer is ok
I am using external crystal oscillator . Program is burned in AVR and verified also. Program is running on AVR i wonder as there is no clock
activity on pin 18 and 19 . If i removed crystal oscillator no program is running .As i have migrated from 8051 so It is strange problem for
me without no clock activity on pin 19 and 18 how program is running. I use fuse bits CKSEL3..0 bits all unchecked to select external
crystal oscillator. Please tell me what is problem.

Then I guess there is activity on the osc pins which you can't trace! Also according to the 'sut' bits there maybe a startup delay problem with the oscillator.

Can you tell, how did you verified that the there is no activity.
You can only check it using an oscilloscope.
(If you try to check it with a multimeter, the clock activity may stop due to loading of meter)

I think logic probe will not indicate the clock activity properly and reliably. The best method is to use a CRO with high input impedance.
