I saw some post asking for step up dc-dc converter, here i put my project complete with schematic, pcb, excel calculation file, and datasheet. It works fine with 12V input 19V/3A output.

Hi guys.

I in thinking of making PWM power supply using DC Step down concept.

What I know, the PWM will control the amount of time of current to flow. For the gate control by PWM, I'm going to use mosfet ie IRFP1710  or some other mosfet as equivalent.

What I want to ask ... how to calculate the uH (coil or inductor) ? Do I need to wind the wire around ferrite core and how many turn and what size wire will be? I'm planning to get max 20A and transformer going to used is 230/15-0-15.

The PWM freq is about 200k using IC 555 as clock generator. I just dont know how to calculate how much inductor/inductance needed and how to make if I need to wind the coil.

I think UC2843 will be much better in such role, as MC33063 or 555 timer. http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/uc2843.pdf

Yes it is fully working, I've made it several times. The efficiency is not very high about 70% as I remember.
I'll try to find mine and make some photo of it, but maybe it will take some time.

a more efficient Step up can be made using Linear LTC3703, this Ic can be used as a buck or a boost type of converter and does not require current sense, a small step up can be made to run a Laptop from a cigarette lighter car jack

There are some articles at this site http://www.smps.us , that I have used some times.
